Last session of the year

Today the last session of 2009 Jose Luis Oltra will decide which players he is taking to Santander with him. The players will be travelling tomorrow so I guess there will be no late party for them tonight. We wish them all a Happy New Year and send thanks for the joy they have bought us all this year. And the wish that next year they will bring us as much joy by working for us to stay in the First Division.

Yesterday Míkel Alonso was interviewed by the press. His comments included the thought that the players know the need to gain 3 points in Santander. " At home the results are good but we still need to work on the away points. It would be a good game to have the 3 points to bring home."
He continued that they have a good chance against Racing, that they are going to Santander with the idea of working hard and bring home those magical 3 points. He commented that there have been other games where they were not bad but just didn't have that special something to win.
His last comments were about the style of play in CD Tenerife, " We have a style and work on this every day. This team has real football skills and with them have managed so far to keep us out of the last three teams who are going down to the second division"

His companion Marc Bertran was also interviewed in the press area in the Mundialito training ground, where he talked about his injury. “I feel better, but I am still missing the rhythm which comes from training every day. I can't say when I will start to play for the team again, this is the most difficult time of my recuperation”.

“I need to insist it is not good to fix a date for my coming back to play”, the Catalan player continued, he followed this thought by saying “I am with the team, but little by little”.

Bertran, lastly, indicated that “We need to improve the away points. Let's see if we can do this soon”, and when asked about the year as a whole he said, “It has been a great 2009 in every aspect. In total a special year a year to remember even if on a personal level there is that but from my accident in Real Madrid.

José Luis Oltra has for today Wednesday two sessions planned both in the Mundalito, the first at 10.00 and the second at 16:30.

New Years wish

Miguel Concepción expressed his wish for 2010 as the need for CD Tenerife to stay in the first division. In an interview on Monday to Radio El Dia he took the time to describe the state of events in the club.
" If you look at the balance of the year the highlight has been our return to the first division. I never expected the support from the fans this was unbeliveable. I have constantly been overwhelmed although I have tried to keep this under control."
When asked about the future he stated he had confidence in the team, That CD Tenerife had good players even with those injured, the team was playing well. When he was asked about the posibility of signing more players in the winter he commented that there were player in the clubs ecconomic possibilities. In relation with the outstanding debts he mentioned the club has managed to reduce the debt by 50 %, that the lubs accounts were being managed efficiently.
His last comments were for Hector trnasmiting the clubs condolences and support to the player and his family.

Possible signings

There is talk on the Sport's Blanquiazul website that Iriome may be coming back to play for CD Tenerife. The winger has spent the last 5 months in Huesca playing for the team there. Huesca are in the second division and 14th right now. Iriome has played in 14 games starting in 9 and being bought on as a substitute in 5 more. He has a total of 746 minutes played 1 yellow card and 1 goal.

Anopther rumor is Milan Stepanov from Serbia. The player is a Central and is at present registered with Oporto and on loan to Malaga CF. He is 26 years old and started out playing evey game for Malaga but injury and lack of confidence by the trainer has left him on the bench. He has played in 4 games starting in all 4 of them with a total of 315 minutes played and 3 yellow cards

Omar Ramos in an interview on the UEFA website

Omar Ramos a star in CD Tenerife's team this year has an article in the UEFA website. Here
The article is in Spanish and although I have tried to find it on the English site it doesn't seem to have been translated.
The winger has created interest this year especially with the Spanish federation under 21's who called him up to play for them.
The leader in the article states "One of the most promising players in the first few months of this season is young player Omar Ramos. The left winger who has only played just 2 years in the third division and is now elbow to elbow with some of the best players on the planet" There is an interview with the player and 2 photos.

INCIDENTS
14th game in the BBVA league, Played in the Coliséum Alfonso Pérez
stadium in Getafe in front of 14.000 spectators, of which 300 were CD Tenerife fans. On a very cold afternoon.

Getafe - a great weekend.

The weekend started out on Saturday morning with a 40 minute delay in TFS but then we were on our way. We arrived in Madrid and took the underground to the hotel. At that point the boys went to see the Rayo Vallecano game and we went to the Reina sofia Museum. Just because we are football fans doen't mean we can't like art. 4 hours later we drifted back to the hotel and met the others.
We were warm and they were freezing. We all then went to Sol in the sentre of Madrid to .... watch more football in a great Irish sports bar. Barcelona won and then hunger struck. Kebabs for most of us, there is a photo of a horse in the restaurant but I am sure they were lamb. After this the brave went on to a rock bar and the rest of us headed back to the hotel.
Sunday was game day but the morning was full of adventure, more art, shopping and something to eat. Madrid is full of bars where tapas really come free with every drink.

Then it was time, Metro to Atorcha then the train to Getafe. As we get out there is no one to be seen. Is this like the scene from the warriors where all the gangs are hiding to attack us or is there just no one here. Desolate it was and we bought our tickets safe and sound. 40 euros seemed expensive for behind the goal but what can you do!!!!!!!
A bar was found and we chatted to others from the Tegueste fan club. 2 or 3 drinks later it was time to brave the cold and cold it was.
The first half was ok. Getafe scored but we were playing reasonably. The second half saw another mistake and Getafe made the most of it and scored again followed by a lucky goal for us from Juanlu. But our play wasn't good in the second half. There were mistakes and it was cold. The general comented after the game it could have been worse but I am not sure how, still next week is another chance.
More drinks and an early night were due as a 4am taxi to the airport was on the cards for Monday first thing. Some were going straight to work luckily not me this time. I had a great time and look forward to another trip next year. Thanks General for organising this.

Round up

Héctor Sánchez played his first game in the first Spanish division, against Sporting de Gijón. He said" I lived the sort of debut everyone dreams of in the first division. I couldn't ask for more especailly as we won. I felt proud of the support from the fans. I played well on the field and was really concentrated not to make any mistakes. It is true I neede to ask for the change in that moment I thought more of the team than of myself".

Reservations for tickets for the game this Sunday against Getafe away must be with the club by 2pm this afternoon. The tickets can then be picked up on Friday morning.

The club has reminded us this is the best placing we have had in the first division since Heynckes was trainer here in 96/97. Their information was quoted from here.

In Getafe, Pablo Sicilia played his debut in the first division for Athletico de Madrid on the 19th of February 2006.. When asked about it he said," I hope to be able to celebrate on Sunday a win for Tenerife. Football isn't easy and playing in the first division is very complicated. Sometimes your career takes straight lines and somtimes you need to bend and weave to get where you want to be. The important thing is to fulfill your dreams".

In 2000 Tenerife won against Getafe 0-5 the best result the have ever had in the first division. Gavilán will play the first time against CD Tenerife since he left the team after his time here on the island in 2004-05 when he played here ceded by Valencia.

Rest In Peace Manolo Jorge

The club sends their condolences to the family of Manolo Jorge an ex-player for CD Tenerife. He played in the post war years. Born in 1921, he was island champion with CDT in 1940. He also played for Real Union In the team which is now Athletico Madrid he played in the first division for 4 season playing 100 games in league and cup. Later he played for Cordoba in the second and third division. His brothers are Gabriel y Valentín, who were also stars in Spanish football. He was also uncle of Robi, ex player & ex trainer of CD Tenerife.

Interviews with the players after the Sporting game

The following comments were on the club website after the Sporting game yesterday afternoon. Interestingly they are all local players this week.

Pablo Sicilia: "This victory is very important. Another three points gives us a great boost. The team achieved this with the support of the fans. Sporting scored from a lone play but we then controlled the game. We demonstrated that we wanted the win and is fair that we won. We now have 14 points which we earned by playing well but we need to continue along the same line. We need to play well against Getafe".

Omar: " The first half was more difficult, but in the second part we were much better and managed a win. We are very happy with the support form the fans. Their goal came very early and that is never good but we carried on fighting. As for me personally I need to continue working hard and playing the best I can. Our goal is to continue adding points”.

Ayoze: “We have shown we can work hard together to get things done. The support from the fans was a factor in our win. We need to concentrate on how we play not on how the others play. The point form last week was important and more so if we added to the win today. The last game gave us loads of umph as to come back form 3-0 to 3-3 is hard”.

Ángel: “These were 3 important points above all as we came form an away draw. We have come back in a good game. I had a chance for a goal but it didn't go in. Even then I am pleased with the way the game went. The goal against Valladolid has given me more confidence. The team finished today happy with the result”.

Ricardo: “It was a fair victory because we managed to fight our way back from the 0-1. They scored from an isolated play but CD Tenerife was dominating for most of the game. With the goal the idea was to finish the play. I think it hit someone and that confused Juan Pablo. This championship is very long and we need to keep up the fight, that said we are doing ok”.

Héctor: “I finished up very tired after so much time withour playing. I was concentrated all eek on training, but the trainer is the one who makes the final decisions. Now I need o keep training as usual. The applause from the public at the end was euphoric and gave us a great boost. The fans were unbeliveable and that led us to win”.

Same players

It was like Jose Luis Oltra sent out different players in the second half. The game changed and the level of comitment from the CDT players was 100% more. This was the style of play we saw last week in the final 20 mins against Valladolid and I hope we will see more of it. The players chased every ball and made every play count. Goles were scored by Ricardo and Nino but there was a chance for Angel with a late miss.

In the after game interview Manolo Preciado the trainer for Sporting said thet Tenerife deserved the win because they worked really hard. He said the need to win and the support from the fans caused the players to play their best and therefore win. Sporting he claimed had been unlucky with injuries, both Bilic y de De las Cuevas were changed due to injury.

Jose Luis Oltrastated that the team had perservered and had been superior to their rival. "It needed a great effort after the first play when we nearly scored and then their goal. Especially as they have had seven games in a row without loosing." When asked about his expulsion he replied that he had protested and disrespected the ref, this was bad and so he had been sent off

In yesterday's player interview Juanlu Hens said he thinks that it cost them a lot to turn the game around last weekend but it served to prove that they can be a competitive team. He feels they need the win against Sporting and the three points to relaunch themselves in the league. He hopes that the support of the fans will help that the three points stay in Tenerife.

José Antonio Culebras stated that he hopes he has the chance to play again soon. "It isn't always possible but one always has the need to play. It is hard not to be choosen, but I keep faith that I will be choosen again soon. I always do my best at every training session." To finish he commented emotionally that he has a very special feeling for Santa Cruz the fans and the team and couldn't see himself playing for any other team."

Message from the Armada Sur Fan Club President.

The various Fan Clubs and Animation groups of CD Tenerife are calling on all supporters to give our team the maximum support next Sunday in the game against Sporting Gijon.

Now is the time for everyone to unite and support the players, next Sunday three very important points are in play and between everyone we must make sure that the points do not leave The Heliodoro Stadium.
Only 5 months ago practically all the players from this actual squad were welcomed back to the Island like authentic hero`s for taking us back to the Primera League. We all know that many other teams in the league are spending huge amounts of money on signings which we simply cannot do.
Tenerife is a modest club so we need to fill this void with our enthusiasm from the terraces and encourage the team who are without doubt giving 100% in every game. Let us not forget that not so long ago the dressing room was filled with mercenaries that did not care for the fortunes of CDT. For that reason we insist that the support is constant and the Island of Tenerife can always be represented at the highest level. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our anger regarding the match kick off times set by the LFP (Spanish Football League).
We ask for equality with the rest of the teams in Spain as they play at 5pm and we are forced to play at 4pm. The Canarian hour differance is not be respected. We hope the authorities will take note of this circumstance and in future permit that CD Tenerife may play their matches at a later hour. If they fail to do so the various fan clubs of CD Tenerife will organise various colective protests.

Comments from the players after the 3-0

Interviews with the players after Sundays come back from 3-0 to 3-3

Ricardo - After the 3-0 no one thought about a draw but we shouldn't have given away so much. We need to play well from the begining. We could have won this game, They started very strong especially after the start of the second half. Games last 90 minutes. It was time we scored a point away. To score in stadiums like this is important

Angel
- It was a shame that we missed that last chance, I had a chance to win the game. Definatively it was a good point especially after how the game played out. The team needed a game like this. We started badly and it is always difficult to come back with a 3-0 in the first division.

Sicilia
- After the 3-0 the team found some courage and went for the game. We gained a point in a difficult stadium. In the second half we demonstrated that we were superior. We did a great job. We are greatful for the support from the fans. I wnt to send support ton Chema Sanz. We go home from here happy. Now a rest day and then we need to think about the next game.

Bellvis - The point was important for us because we managed to come back and score the 3 goals something which seemed very difficult 15 minutes into the second half. The team went of and gave it their all and has managed a deserved draw. The game got very ugly but they made their mistakes and we made the most of them. Now with this point we need to do well at the weekend winning against Sporting at home.

Ayoze
- The team played for their honor and achieved an important point. With the 3-0 it seemed almost impossible to achieve a draw for this game but we went for it. We have potential and today we have shown again what we can do. I belive the fair result was a draw. Now we need to win against Sporting and I ask the fans to support us to make the Helidoro into a fort.

Valladolid v CD Tenerife

This was one of those games that will be remembered for a long time. CDT has never come back to a 3-3 draw from 3-0 in the history of the club. I will remember it for a long time as we were there.
We had the luck to stay in the hotel where the team were and I had the chance to get some great photos.
It was cold and if we were cold in hats and scarves I can't imagine how could it was in shorts on the pitch. 3-0 down after half time was a sad moment but from when Nino scored th e first goal the players gave their all in every way to try to come back and the result of not giving up was a draw. It could have been a win but a point away was well worth it.

Kome back but injured

Kome was back at training yesterday but has an injured leg muscle and it is questionable if he will play on Saturday.

There were more than 200 people waiting to buy seats for Saturdays game this morning in Santa Cruz. The game is expected to sell out.

In interviews yesterday in the press room at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium Carlos Bellvis stated "I can see a very competitive team and we are capable of staying up. The fans always help us. On Saturday I hope the Helidoro will be full and am sure the fans will be ther to support us on hundred percent". When asked abou Sevilla Bellvis commented that they were a great team with many great players especially their forwards. "We know that a simple error could cost us the game. So we will need to be very concentrated from the first minute onwards."

Sergio Aragoneses started his interview by commenting that they were talking about a very complicated rival, a team that in the last few years has always been in European competitions. "That said," he continued "it is a game that anyone could win. We need to make the most of our chances as they present themselves. We need to go all out to win because the best would be if those three points stay here at home." To conclude he confirmed that the support of the fans will be very very necessary.

Miguel Concepción again affirmed that nothing had been discussed about paying the players an extra payment if they stayed in the first division. He said the players hadn't asked for anything all they need is to go out and win the 45 points the club needed to stay up.

Tickets for Sevilla game go on sale.

Tickets go on sale this morning for the game on Saturday. Sevilla are third in the league, but Capel is away with the under 21's and Adriano Correia has problems with his stomach muscles. We will see what is to be. Of the 14 visits from Sevilla in Tenerife CDT has won half the games.

In a Player interview yesterday Roman Martinez stated that the team wanted to gift a win against Sevilla FC to the fans.

The club has just employed ex referee from the Primera Division, Manuel Ángel Pérez Lima, to help with technical advice for the players and coaches.

The president of CD Tenerife, Miguel Concepción in an interview on Radio COPE yesterday (Tuesday) covered various points of interest. He stated that he would have liked the team to have won the round in the Copa Del Rey but it wasn't possible and now the team needs to look forward and try to reach the 45 points that we need to stay in the first division. He commented that this is not going to be easy but everyone is confident that the team will get there. He also spoke of the attempt to try to raise the number of shares that members need to go to the AGM, He stated that what they wnated to do was within company law and there would be a vote to see if thiswas what the shareholders wanted. When asked about the number of delegates he confirmed that the club was looking for a maximum of seven and a minimum of five. Lastly he talked about the timing of games he has been in meetings with the president and vicepresident of the LFP( Spanish professional football league) and now needs to talk to Media Pro representative Jaume Roures where he hopes to come to a solution which respects the Canarian time difference. He asks that they respect the times in the league and that we are not asking for a favor just that the team is treated the same as every other team.

Cristo Marrero an ex CDT player who was on the Island took the time to pass by training yesterday to visit the team and the trainers.

Positive thoughts

Although it is hard right now I need to think positively or I will be sad.

Thoughts include the comentator for the weekend game who after the goals encouraged the fans to shout the name of the players who had scored. This is new and created a great extra element for the fans.

Omar has been called up for the Spanish under 21's and will be part of the squad who goes to play against Finland, this Friday; & Holland, on Tuesday the 17 de november.
Marc Bertran has announced that he hopes to be back for the Barcelona game at the begining of January.

In an interview with Eziquel Luna he stated, " We are out of the cup and need to concentrate on the league. We need to get better, all the players in many ways. We need to continue working. We are all pulling in the same direction, we are great collegues. We need to stay calm and continue to work together. You can understand that the fans are cross but between us all we will pull through." When asked about his own playing he answered, "I am really fed up as the things are not coming the way I would like them. It hurts when people talk badly about you, but I know I made mistakes."
However he plays it is wrong to do what 3 fans aparently did after the Celta game. They aparently were waiting outside the stadium and when he came out of the stadium with his wife and child were exceptionally nasty. The club aparently has this on camera and is following it up.

The players are of today and back in the Mundialito tomorrow at 10 am and the same time and place on Saturday . Then off Sunday.

Hasta la muerte

This was the phrase I came away form the game with. After the Celta goal the whole stand was destroyed. The only sounds to be heard were a minute later from the Singing stand where this is what they sung. I don't know the whole song but these words were the ones we could hear. And they describe how I feel. The translate in this instance to Until death do us part the good times and the bad times CDT is my team. This was a bad game we had a great chance which wasn't converted into a goal. The ball came all the way up but there were almost no shots on goal and those that were near went wide.
We came away sad but as ever making excuses. " two competitions would have been too much", "We didn't pick up until after the winter break last year" and "its a shame Kome wasn't there" were heard on the walk back to the car. All those are true and there was nothing wrong with them but the game was bad. Nino is clearly nervous and it is a pity but at least he gave his all when he came on, no one can ask for more then that he tries.
They have 10 days break for internationals and I hope that they can try to get back some of the spark we saw at the begining of the season. It must be hard to struggle week in week out.

Celta de Vigo actually have part of their website in English. I was looking for their travel details and was surprised by this. It is something for CDT to aim for. I am amazed when I talk to visitors how many of them follow Tenerife from their home country.

I didn't forget

It wasn't that I forgot you on Saturday but the hotel has no internet connection so even if I had blogged I would have had no way to get it too you
I wanted to say thanks for all the birthday greetings I received on facebook.

We have no owners meal tonight as there was very little take up for it even with over 20 owner families arriving but I am sure we will do better next week. Tony and Rita, have already booked and I am sure more will join in.

It is really great when owners support the resort in this way. And it allows them to meet each other. The meals are somthing we have been running since autumn 2002. We have though about changing the menu this year so maybe we will for the new year. What do you think?

The sun is shining and it is still unseasonably warm.
Have a great day.
