CD Tenerife another win

Although we didn't get to see the game we had a wonderful afternoon at home with friends watching it on Canal Plus. I usually like to watch Tenerife games on Canal Canarias as they are very pro us. With the Derby they need to be less biased .
The game was good. Tenerife struggled in the first half to find their rhythm but in the second half they clearly dominated the game. The first goal came from Richi and the second from the second leagues highest gole scorer Nino. The pass for the second gole came from Angel a local player who was playing his first derby and celebrating his birthday.
It was a great game and although it had been catagorised as a high risk game for the fans there was no trouble and the Canariones went safely back to Gran Canaria. The points leave us with a 4 point gap between us and the 4th team. This gives us a breathing space against Zaragoza next weekend. T
Tenerife has filled 2 planes of fans for the next game. So there will be a good crowd for the away game.

Derby day

This is the big day. Tenerife are playing Las Palmas at 5.30pm this afternoon. The stadium is sold out for the first time since 2003. There were queue for 4 days to buy tickets and all the tickets sold out on the day they were released. The first section behind the goal selling within 1 hour.

There has been a call from one of the fan clubs that flags should be flown all over the Island and I will be hanging up a flag on our balcony as soon as I get home from work.
Have a great day and wherever you are support Tenerife.

Gofio and comments appreciated

As I promised a few weeks back I am going to tell you about gofio. Every place has a staple which they eat to fill them up. In the UK it was potatoes in India it is Rice and in the Canary Isles it is Gofio.
Gofio was the the basic food of the Guanches ( the original Canarian population) It is made from a mixture of cereals including wheat barley and maize which are roasted and then ground to make flour. It is dark in colour nearly the colour of acorns. It can be used to make sweet and savoury products including Ice Cream. Ask me where this can be found as I have encountered a great Ice Cream shop in Los Cristianos. Most often it is mixed with milk as a breakfast cereal or with stock as an accompaniment to several Canarian stews.

My favourite way to eat it is a way I was taught by friends mixed with honey, chopped almonds and white cheese. These are all chopped up and mixed together and kneaded until they make a sold mass. It is the rolled into a sausage shape and cut in slices to eat.

A recipe for gofio with stews is Escaldon:

Preparation time:
15 minutes.
Number of portions: 4/5
Ingredients:
1 litre de stock
gofio
parsley
salt
Method:
Heat the stock and when it is boiling remove it from the heat, add the chopped parsley and the gofio and stir until it is thick adding more gofio until the required consistency is achieved. It should be thick but still wet enough to move this can then be eaten with a spoon or added straight to your stew.
Stews it can be served with include fish Cazuela and Puchero.

Lastly I wanted to say thanks to the family who left me the comment on slide.com. It is always great to get comments and we look forward to seeing you in July.
Have a great day. It is cloudy today here but still warm
Take care.

Tenerife's winning weekend

C D Tenerife had another great weekend beating Real Sociedad in San Sebastian 1-2. The basque team scored first with Tenerife then being given a penalty for a foul on Kome which was converted into a goal by Nino and then Nino went on to score a lucky goal in the 67th minute. It was a great game and another 3 points for the team. In most years ith 70 points going up to la liga would be easy but this year it looks like Tenerife will need a few more.
The Island Derby is next Saturday and the tickets sold out on the first day they were sold. We didn't manage to get any tickets so we won't be going to the game. This will be the first home game this year we have missed and I am a bit sad. On the other hand wthere were people who stood 4 days in line to get their tickets so I wish them well.
Our plan is to buy a season ticket next season as getting seats gets more and more difficult. We have always gone up a couple of hours before the game and had no trouble but the last game we went 4 days before and we guess we will need to do the same for the game against Real Murciaon the 10th of May.
There were loads of fans in the airport and you can see the photos here
(Sorry its in Spanish)

C D Tenerife won 5-1

Today was a great day. I don't think I have ever seen Tenerife score 5 goals. We had to get up early to get to Santa Cruz but it was definitely worth it.
Goles were scored 2 Alfaro 2 Richi and 1 from Nino. They played really well and held the ball endlessly in the second half.
Here are some video clips taken at the game.
This is whilst they warm up.

The Canarian flag and our new screen.

The teams comming out to play.

The start of the second half

During play

I thought I had the end of the game and the final score and the fact we are again 2nd in the league but I obviously pressed the wrong button. We are going in 2 weeks to the Canarian Derby against Las Palmas which Thomas has never been happy about our going to before. I am really looking forward to it.

Have a great day.

The other thing we went out to eat at a restaurant in San Isidro on Friday. The food was wonderful and the service was good. It is called El Jable and if you want information please contact me.

gym time

I have joined a gym, I can't think why
Oh I remember it is because Martina wanted to go. That lasted about 2 secoonds and I am left going alone. I have never been a gym person but I am actually enjoying it. Except thet my body seems to constantly hurt. Today is sunday and I am fortunately not going. The gym is shut. So I will get to rest my poorly legs/arms/back.

Tenerife played well yesterady and managed an away draw in Rayo Vallecano
It seems like we are still leaders and both Tomas and I are looking forward to going to the game next week.
