Winner of the Fair Play title in the Liga Adelante.

CD Tenerife has been anounced winner of the clean game title in The second Spanish division for the year 08/09. They have 140 points drawing with CD Castellón and Elche CF, as the teams with the least cards in the recently finished league.
On the 10th of July in the General Assembly of the General de la Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF), (the Spanish Football federation) the teams will be given a trophy for this title.

Nino is the 4th CD. Tenerife player to have one the Pichichi (top goal scorer) title. An important player in the side he managed to score 29 goles this season. He is the only Tenerife player ever to score it alone. The other players to have held the title are José Antonio Barrios, Antonio Illán y Juan Antonio Pizzi but for all of them it was shared with other players. Nino managed to score a last goal which took him to one more than Real Zaragoza player, Ewerthon in the last round. Ewerthon did not have a chance in the last game as he fouled in the penultimate round and has a 5 match ban.

In tribute to Cristo Marrero

I was looking at some of the other blogs I read and there is a smashing report about an event which took place in the Frente Blanqiazul Peña hall. Cristo Marrero was there to be presented with something. This is one of the oldest if not the oldest fan club for Tenerife. Go read about it here Colin Kirby Blog

The morning was quiet for news, on the CD Tenerife website they are reminding season ticket holders for the Tribuna Alta that they can go and see where they now want to sit if they have seats in the area where the new Presidential box will be sited.

The first page says the campaign for season tickets will be starting soon. Friends of mine were in the bank ( Caja Canarias ) this morning and were told the season tickets will be 40% more expensive than last year but I wouldn't take that as gospel as I have heard all sorts of rumors. We will know soon enough.
They state the last 100 commemeration T-shirs are still on sale. 300 were made with the four years the club went up to Primera (The first Spanish Division). They are 75 euros each. As I now have 3 tshirts I have bought in the last month I will not be buying one. Best I like the ont with the 3 year plan from our president which was to be worn for Girona. Although I didn't get there I did wear it in Santa Cruz on the day of the game.

There were also announcements about Tenerife B and what a great season they had. Firstly they won their league and were champions of group 12 of the 3rd division with 81 points They had 21 consecutive wins. Before that the won the Copa Helidoro cup a local Island title.

There was still talk about Crespo in the paper but it seems now that Mora isn't coming.
I will find some more tomorrow.

No Pudo Ser - It wasn't to be

This was the quote from Tenerife B's coach. The stadium was fairly full seeing that it was the second team. I would guess about 5,000 in the stands. There was about 20 from Sporting Mahonés in the San Sebastian stand. The Tenerife fans were mostly in the Tribuna alta and baja.

The Blanqiazules and the Armada Sur fan clubs were in their places in the popular stand. There was a lot of singing and clapping to encourage the team on and in the first half they played well with a couple of shots on goal.

In the second half they seemed to tire but they played on valiently until the 92nd minute when Sporting Mahonés player Ruben scored.

Yellow cards were given to local players Julio, Omar Ramos y Rayco; as well as the visitors Sergio, Raúl Capó, Iray, Moyano y Rubén.

Anyone who has ever been to a game will have seen this man and his flag in the popular end often on the field before the game. I was great to sit near him and actually see him wave the flag.

More transfer gossip

There is talk that the club is negotiation with Crespo who plays for Sevilla in their second team. He is a friend of Alfaro and they have shared rooms in the past which should mean we get a good report and should encourage him to come if the clubs come to an agreement. It would be great if we could get an agreement with Sevilla by which they loan us some of their youth players. Getafe seem to have this sort of aranegement with Real Madrid and it has served them well over the last few years.
Season tickets seem to be going on sale the second week in July allowing a week for the club to sort out the moving of the seat holders who are being shifted by the creation of a directors box.
The players had agreed a bonus for going up to the first division and this will be paid in to payments the first in September when the season ticket money is in and the second in December after the club has received the television money. This payment will aparently be 60% of the years budget which has been stated as 20 million euros.
The club has stated the season tickets will include the Real Madrid and Barcelona games and there will be no extra payment required. The club has stated that seat prices will go up but not for season ticket holders.

15,000 Season Ticket holders needed

The club announced that the final number of season ticket holders last season was a little over 10,000. The hope is that this number will rise to 15,000 this season. The date for selling the season tickets has been postponed because of the refurbishment to the stadium and hasn't been announced.
In the meeting on thursday the 25th of June Miguel Concepción stated that the last time Tenerife was in the first division they had 12,000 season ticket holders and that he didn't see why they could not reach the 15,000. He then commented that everyone was interested in inowing when the sale would start. He stated that the season tickets would be on of the cheapest in the Primera division, that although they would go up it would not be by much and that the fans would be less than expected.

It has also been announced that Tenerife will not be buying a star player as if he is injured it would leve us with nothing. Better they commented to work at forming a strong block to play well. The sort of players Tenerife are looking for are ones who want to work and to comit themselves to the club.

Stadium refurbishment announcements

At a meeting this morning the Cabildo and representatives from CD Tenerife announced that there will be a major series of refurbishments to take place in the stadium. The budjet for this work is 3,120,000 euros. This work will be done in 4 phases.
Phase 1
Will repair the bathroom areas the players changing rooms, the rain drainage system, the stadium seating areas, the pathways, the stairs and the roof on the Tribuna stand.
2nd Phase
They will improve the Antifeatro stand (Can anyone tell me where this is?), and underneath it make an office for the club a shop ( wonderful) and a small museum for the club trophies.
3rd Phase
Modify the press area and build a new box in the Tribuna Alta stand" in accordance with the needs of a first division club ... as there is nowhere for visiting dignitaries." 400 seats will be moved and because of this the selling of season tickets will start later to allow the holders on the seats which will be moved to have priority in seat choices.
The last phase
This is for improvements in the San Sebastian stand and there will also be offices built below this stand.

Looks like a busy summer with loads to look forward to.

Thursday gossip

I was waiting today for the club to announce what exactly is going to happen with the Tribuna Alta Stadium. I have gleaned out of the newspaper El Dia what is being built is a President's Box.

In the mean time it was anounced that the fine for the last stadium invasion would be no more than 6,000 euros. This means that there will be no closing the stadium for the first game something every CD Tenerife fan will be pleased about. The ref José Antonio Teixeira Vitienes, wrote un his game report "an number of fans jumped from the stands" onto the pitch " occuping it completelywith their only aim being to celebrate the clubs going up to the first division" and that they "could reach the changing rooms with the assistance of the police with no dificulties". This was actually very generously written.

El Dia newspaper states that the players who still have ongoing contracts are Luis García, Marc Bertrán, Culebras, Héctor, Manolo Martínez, Iriome, Juanlu, Ayoze, Dani Kome, Richi, Nino, Ángel y Sáizar. It would seem that negotations for Eziquel Luna are not going well as it has been announced he will be going back to Argentina.

New Season. New changes.

It has been announced this week that the Cabildo (Island Government) will be working on the seating area in The Tribuna Alta stand. There has been a great deal of upset and complaints form season ticket holders in this block. The complaints are more that they have not been informed what is going to happen that the refurbishment itself. Some of the season ticket holders have held their seats for more than 20 years and feel they have a right to know what is going to happen. The Cabildo yesterday stated that they will announce exactly their plan on Thursday

Trainer Jose Luis Oltra upheld his promise to go hang gliding if the team went up to the Primera division. He had actually promised to hang glide over Las Palmas de Gran Canaria but this was probably deemed provocative. His hang gliding exploits were over Puerto de la Cruz and below is a video taken on his flight.

The future of Iriome with be decided in the next few days the club has announced. The possible options seem to be Celta de Vigo and Huesca. Both of these are division 2a teams and will give Iriome a chance to play more.
Juanlu Hens future seems to be with the club as is Gaizka Saizar's. It will be great to see him play more having been off so long last season with injuries. Sergion Aragoneses has stated that he too would like to remain on the island and with CD Tenerife.

That's all I can find today.

Oltra staying

Entry to last Sundays game courtesy of the club.

What was actually a known secret has actually been announced. Oltra will be staying for the following season. Concepcion yesterday announced that José Luis Oltra will stay with the club for another season.. He will be the first trainer to have ascended with the club and trained them in the first division. If he stays the year he will also have trained the club longer than any other trainer. The longest trainer until now was the present Real Madrid Manager Valdano, who trained the club for two and a half years.

The team is now on holiday until the 20th of July when they come back for summer training. They have their medical checks on the 21st of July and then are off to Barlovento, La Palma for pre-season training. friendly matches will be announced on the club website as they are organised.

The second team are playing the last round of going up to Segunda B the third Spanish round On Sunday at 12:00 o'clock in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López. They lost the away game 2-1 but hope to manage to go up. Armada Sur are organising a bus from the south if anyone is interested in going. Contact them on their website. Link here

Going up is what counts

Last nights game had a bittersweet taste to it. Saying goodbye to Cristo the teams captain left the fans drained. The shouts of Cristo we love you went around and around the stadium for over 10 minutes. The team raised him into the air before they allowed him to leave the field. As a player and a person he will be sorely missed by the fans and the club. I and everyone else wish him luck wherever he goes to play in the future. When he is finished playing I hope he will take up the clubs offer of a job. I remember 2 or even 3 seasons ago he was taking classes to be a football coach so maybe this will be his future.
It was fantastic that nino scored a goal which left him as top goal scorer in the league. All the way through the gamje it seemed that at any moment Tenerife could score another goal but the Castellon keeper saved ball after ball.
It was a terrible shame at the end of the game that some fans ran on the field. I hope there will be no stadium ban but what will be will be. The sights of the fans cutting bits of the nets and diging up chunks of grass had to be seen to be believed.

Champion?

Today is the big day Tenerife could be champion of the second division. They could have Nino be Pichchi ( top goal scorer.) He already has that but at present it is shared with Ewerthon. Ewerthon didn't play yesterday as last week he headbutted another player and was banned for 5 games. We could have the most points in the second division and the most goles scored by Tenerife in a season. So today there is loads to play for. We are the only game left to play as all the rest of the games were played yesterday.

We are going to the game but a tremdous effort has been made around the Island so people can see the game. It is on Canal Canarias and also there are big screens in various towns where you could go and watch with others. Adeje even have a group afterwards.

I was very pleased as one of the photos I took last weekend was in a local newspaper. I opened the page and there is was. The paper was the Island Connections a local English paper.

Celebration T-shirts and Filial teams

The club has announced that for 20 euros you can buy the T-shirt that the players were wearing after the Girona Game and on their trimufant tour of the city. It will be for sale in The Club shop until supplies run out. Have you ever been to the club shop. It is a teeny tiny little shop in the streets above the Plaza and above it are the club offices. If you have more than 4 people in there is is packed. I have been twice this season the first time to buy shares for myself, my husband and my son and last week to buy the T-shirst with the plan of the last 3 years. They were a much better price at 5 euros each but if it means the club has more money I will be up there this weekend to get another one.

The Juvenil A team are playing in the against Sevilla FC in the return encounter of their Copa del Rey on sunday at 10.30 our time. They played the first game last sunday evening and drew 1-1.
Our second team are still trying to move up a category to Segunda B the third Spanish division. They play Sporting Mahones tomorrow in the last elimination round so I wish them well.

18/06/2009

New Players and a celebration T-shirt

The Spanish newspaper AS seems sure that we will be signing the Central defender Pepe Mora at the begining of next week. They presume this is not being anounced before as he plays for Castellon, Tenerife plays them on Sunday. Mora actually played under Oltra in Castellon.
Talking about José Luis Oltra is was today 2 years ago that he joined the club. He had just finished 4th with Ciudad de Murcia in Segunda A and in 2 years has taken us to the Primera the first Spanish league.
Santiago Llorente has said he would like to resign Pablo Sicilia, Sergio Aragoneses, Mikel Alonso and Ricardo. There is also talk about Emilio Sanchez a young (23) midfielder who player in Alaves this season. Tenerife have also anounced that they would prefer that Hecotr looked for somewhere else as they will not be counting with him next year.

17/06/2009

CajaCanarias and online tickets.

The club has announced that Season tickets will go on sale from the first of July and that there will be 15000 available. They actually sold a little over 9,000 last year so this will be a big jump if they manage to sell them all. It has been announced that the cost will be the minimum. How much that actually is is still to be announced but I would guess we will know in the next few days. Also announced was that they will try to make buying them as easy as possible. There were interest free loans last year so maybe that will be available this year as well.
It was also announced in the presentation of the club in Caja Canarias that there is a plan in motion for tickets to be available for sale online next season. As CajaCanarias have a ticket selling business this seems only plausible. It will help residents in the North and the South of the Island. From the Stadium you can choose the seats that are available but in the other selling locations you can only choose form the tickets they have been given.
When is comes to transfers the AS has announced that in an interview with Braulio he has said he would only transfer to Tenerife. Tiro Federal Eziquel Luna's team seem very keen to sell him. They have announced they are awaiting an offer from CD Tenerife and perhaps they have put the price too high.

Tickets behind both goals have completely sold out and the rest are expected to sell during the week.

16/06/2009

We have tickets and other things

I am pleased to say we have tickets for sunday. I am sorry my husband had to wait all night in fornt of the shop in Los Cristianos, but I did offer.

When he got there last night there were already 30+ queueing and by the time I phoned him at 7am this morning there were over 150. Not long after that the police came by and told then to queue in a different line. By the time the shop started selling the tickets there were over 400 people there waiting for tickets. Behind the goal went in 10 mins and the rest were expected to go soon after. there had been people camping outside the stadium since sunday.

The club have anounced that they will sign up the trainer for a further contract from next monday onwards and they are now begining to look at players for next year.

There are rumors about Braulio who played for Salamanca this year and Pablo Sicilia has anouced that his first choice would be to stay with the Club. Nino has at least one more year on his contract. We will see what is to come!!!!
Here is the presentation of the team in Caja Canarias our biggest sponsor.

A Primera

Los imagenes son de http://www.clubdeportivotenerife.es/

This was a weekend to remember. The game on Saturday was sentenced by Kome at the end of the first half. Although Girona had a couple of shots at goal a draw would have been enough for being qualified for the first division.

My Shirt which you can't see says:
06/07 we formed a team
07/08 we dreamed
08/09 we had faith
and the moment arrived!!!

There were nearly 30,000 people in the Plaza de España to watch the game and 200,000 people took to the streets to watch the riumphant arrival of the team home to Tenerife and their presentation at the Cabildo.

The fans started celebrating in the fountain at half time having decided the goal was enough to qualify us. ( Going in the fountain is completely forbidden but the Island president had previously stated if we went to the first league then as a special occasion playing in the water would be allowed.
Below is a photo of the president of the club in the fountain.

This was taken on Sunday afternoon waiting for the team to arrive.

Lucky Day

I have a really good feeling about today. This is going to be the day we go up!!!
We are going to watch the game in Santa Cruz in the main square Plaza de España.
Canal Canarias has an enormous screen (6*4 metres) on the Plaza and will have pre-show from 15.00 onwards. They will have information about the 2 Canarian games which are both today and interviews with ex-tenerife players. The game will be show live form Montlivi the Girona stadium. With replays of the other goles from the other games.

Sunday presuming we go up there will be a procession of the team in an open to bus from the top of the city down to the Plaza de España starting at 13.00 onwards.

09/06/2009

Video from Armada Sur

I was checking out the internet looking for how ro get to the away game in Girona. As I was looking I found this video on the Armada Sur site (A south Tenerife fan club site).

This is a great view of the highlights of the game including the great goal from Alfaro.

Flights for the game on saturday seem to be about 230 euros for a one day fligh bus and entry. This is out of my budget so I guess we will go to Santa Cruz to watch the game.

08/06/2009

What a game

This was really a game to have seeN. We arrived over 1 hour before the start and the stadium was already half full. There was hissing and booing as the Xerez fans came out to warm up and Ovations as the Tenerife players came on.

There was a great mosiac provided by the Caja Canarias which looked awesome in the stadium.

For both teams this was an important game. A draw would have given Xerez (Jerez)mathematical qualification and keep Tenerife in with a chance for going up. Oltra our trainer had said on Saturday "All we need to do is concentrate and win. Even if we don't win we depend on ourselves but a win is what we need."

The game started well with both teams playing their best. An early goal from Alfaro put Tenerife in the lead. But for Tenerife worst was to come. After 27 minutes the ref sent Ricardo off with a direct red card for a foul. Tenerife need to pull theseles together and play even better and tht is what they did. Until half time they held the ball and just got on with defending.

At half time there was "El Chut de tu Vida" an chance for a lucky few to score a goal from the half way line and win money from the BBA bank the main sponsor of the first and second division here. No one won but it passsed a few minutes.

At the begining of the second half Xerez had a few chances but fortunately there wasn't a goal. Nino sentenced the game in the 84th minute. The Tenerife team played like heroes and a team worthy of being in "La Liga"

Next weekend they play against Girona away and hopefully will be mathematicaly qualified to go up.

This was taken  after the game ended. The fans just stayed and stayed. The marked board has Tenerife first which is why there is so much fuss. The player giving up his shirt was Pablo Sicilia but he was not the only one last night.

06/06/2009

Telling day

Today might be an important day for Tenerife even if they are not playing. Hercules play today and if they lose this would mean That Xerez are qualified and Tenerife are nearly qualified. With a 6 point lead against Hercles they are already nearly there but it would be great to finish the weekend mathematically qualified.
Have a great day

04/06/2009

Tenerife V. Xerez

The game on Sunday is promising to be exciting. There are 600 tickets which Xerez have returned to the club. These will be sold to Club members on Sunday 2 hours before the game. Your share certificate will be required for the sale of the tickets.
This certificate also provides a hefty discount on the cost of a season ticket. One single share is 60,10 euros and one is enough for the discount. Last year a Herradura season ticket (behind the away goal) was 295 euros and with the members share discount was 210 euros.
The club is selling bottles of Cava with the club logo on them. You need to have a season ticket or tickets to the Tenerife -Alaves game. I have 3 tickets but am not planning to go to Santa Cruz. I can't justify just going to Santa Cruz for 3 bottles of Cava.
Caja Canarias have announced they will be paying for a Mosaic for sunday's game. I have never seen one here so this will be a great site to see. I hope to get some photos and share them on monday.

Have a great day and UPA TETE

03/06/2009

We have tickets

With a lot of luck and Thomas waiting about 5 hours in total over the 2 days we have 3 tickets for Sundays game. There were queues everywhere. The tickets in Santa Cruz sold out in the morning except the Tribuna which are 37 euros a seat. Those sold out in the afternoon.

In the south it was not clear that there would be tickets until gone 4pm Originally it had been announced that there would be no more than 4 tickets per person. At 4pm they then announced there would only be 2 tickets per person and if there were left overs you could queue again. He was very lucky and managed to get three so we can all go together. The seats are near each other but not too near so we will try to swap when we get there. Just to be going is the most special thing.

02/06/2009

Tickets for this weeks game.

Yesterday the tickets went on sale in the South of Tenerife for this weeks game. I am not sure how many they had but they sold out within an hour. There were still a couple of hundred of people waiting outside at this point. After a lot of discussion the shop offered to try to get some more tickets for this afternoon.. You could leave your ID number and name and perhaps you will get the chance to buy 4 tickets this afternoon. We have number 59 and hope to get 4 tickets. To not get tickets would be really sad as I think this will be the weekend we get to go up to Primera.
There is a photo in the AS a sports paper with loads of people camped in tents outside the Stadium waiting to buy tickets.
We are going to buy season tickets next year. I can't cope with the worry of will we get a ticket or not.
Kome will be missing for the game at the weekend as he is going to play with his national team. This is a shame as he is a great asset to the team. We will have Alfaro though as he has not been called up for the under 21 european championship.
Have a great day and I will write and tell you if we get tickets or not.
