This is the teams plan for the week. Although we are half way through now it is good to see how their week is structured.
On the DR.s Report are

Juanlu Hens.- Now training progressively with the team and showing good signs.

Román Martínez.- Trained normally and completed the session.

Manolo Martínez.- Underwent physio with no complications.

Interviewed today were Dani Kome and Juanlu Hens
Kome stated that the team hope to win on Saturday and this will keep their points going. Playing at home makes it possible to win against some of the top teams. When asked about his team mates injuries he said, " it is a shame when people are injured butwe need to carry on. We need to learn from each game and if we are missing goal chances we need to work on that."

For his part Juanlu Hens commented that he was slowly impr
oving and that he hopes to be better and able to play soon. He also mentioned that the points in the league were very similar and that CD Tenerife need to be strong at home together with our fans.

Real Madrid match report.

It was a great game. Tenerife played well and were dominating the game in the first half. Various conversations around me at that point all stated what ever the final result Tenerife had played well. The first goal came from an error in mid-field and Benzema made the best of it and scored. The second goal was also from Benzema and the third was scored by a great shot from Kaka.

We arrived in Madrid about 12.00 and set off to the Stadium to have a look for the gate straight after leaving our luggage in the Hotel. We managed to find the entrance after a bit. It is a big stadium but we had been told where the away seats were so not too hard. After stopping for some lunch we met up with some Armada Sur fans and then we went back to the stadium. A short drink stop and as soon as the gates opened we went in to find our seats. The stadium is very well organised. Our entry was on one of the towers but there are escalators all the way up. Although it looks very high up I was surprised by how good the view was. We had a whole section in the corner and the Tenerife fans settled in for the start of play. There was great singing and shouting going on in Our section the lead being taken sometimes by Frente blanquiazul fans and sometimes by others. After Tenerife fans repeatedly sung "Asi Gana Madrid" translation "This is the way Madrid scores" when there were fouls from the Madrid players, Madrid finally scored in the second half and the stands below us then sung exactly the same back. It was a great experience and one I am going to repeat. My other half is a big football fan and has been going to games since childhood. I have only been going to home games the last 6/7 years but have certainly caught the bug.

Injuries leave Marc Bertran out of the game for 3 to 4 months with a small fracture in the pilón anterior of the tibia after a nasty foul from Royston Drenthe. He will have his leg imovilised for 3/4 weeks and will then need time to recover. It is hoped that he will be back after the winter break.

Manolo Martínez will have a scan today to determine the level of damage in his right thigh.

Flight

I really ought to go to bed as we need to get up at 4am for tomorrows flight but I am so excited that I can't sleep. So I will write about a few things I found out and then try again.
Ricardo will be out for 5 weeks it is expected. He was treated yesterday and came out fine

José Luis Oltra, said yesterday of Real Madrid “ Real Madrid has great individual players and a tremendous ability to score. They have had three games without letting in a goal this league. To add it up a great team”.this said he added that CD Tenerife will make tham sweat if Madrid wants to win.

The team trained this afternoon at the Ciudad Deportiva de Valdebebas from 17:30 for an hour to warm up for tomorrows game.
They flew in in the morning from Los Rodeos in Tenerife at 13:30. They are staying in Madrid, at the Hotel NH Abascal.

The players in Madrid are Luis García, Sergio Aragoneses; Marc Bertrán, Pablo Sicilia, Ezequiel Luna, Manolo Martínez, Bellvís; Gaizka Saizar, Richi, Míkel Alonso, Román Martínez, Alfaro, Ayoze, Kome; Ángel, Dinei, Nino & Omar.

More than 700 fans have bought away tickets plus many have bought tickets for other areas of the stadium. The players will be able to hear their fans even though they are sitting in the Gods in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. The club website talks of the great support the team has from the fans who once again have shown this loyalty to the team by moving en masse to the capital. The club publically thanks the fans for this effort.

When interviewed Marc bertran commented that he wouldn't be surprised if Real Madrid got a surprise in tomorrows game. This really would be great. but win or lose I am sure they will play thier best and give their all which is all we can ask.

Galactic game

We may be going to play the Galacticos on Saturday but for me last night Tenerife were giants. With 2 defenders missing and Ricardo going off in the 41st minute the team never did anything but fight. The Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez is becoming the fortress the fans wish it to be. The fans jumped and screamed and sang the whole game. The support even in the posh Tribuna stand was tremendous. There was an overwhelming feeling that we could win and when Mickel finally scored the goal the fans went wild. I was jumping up and down with everyone around me but one of the my friends said the whole upper floor vibrated and she was frightened what might happen.
With chances from Nino, Alfaro, Suso and the goal finally came with a free kick on the side of the goal area which was then headed in by Mikel Alonso.

Jose Luis Oltra commented that the lions on this occasion were Tenerife, he also said that the team played well and that the Tenerife players showed they can fight and overcome adversity.
Caparros, the Athletic coach commented that Tenerife deserved to win, and he hoped that during the season Athletic will have wins like Tenerife's last night.

Comments from the opposing players include from Gorka Iraizoz the outstanding Athletic keeper who said" sometime we had to lose and Tenerife deserved to win. In the first half Tenerife came out and played hard. and we needed to defend and hope for a counter attack. At the end we played for a draw and we were not lucky." Iturraspe said "Ricardo injury was a pity, and I ask him to forgive me." Gurpegi said,"We can't allow ourselves to lose like this. We came with the need to win and there are many ways to lose but a free kick in the 86th minute is unforgivable."

Big game tonight

Tonights game starts at 8pm our time. The gates are opening at 6.30pm so everyone can get to the stadium and those of us who finish work earlier can get in earlier leaving time and space for those people who don't finish work until just before the game. Hopefully on the San Sebastian side they will have all the gates open and everyone will get to see the start of the game.
CD. I know there are season ticket holders who can't make it who have passed their cards to others so the stadium should be fairly full.
Tenerife trainer Jose Luis Oltra said yesterday in an interview that the team needs the fans tonight so I hope everyone who can will be going.
He started the interview saying "I am convinced we are going to win I have total confidence in the team. The home ground is an important factor, also the fans and we need to show that in Tenerife it is not easy to win this season." He stated that he didn't see Atletic Bilbao as a trial by fire, The players are just starting at this level and it takes time. Then he commented that he was sure they would win this game "but if not we will try for the next one" easing the pressure off the players. " The loss in the Ono Stadium was an accident and you shouldn't worry too much about it. He finished with the saying "Always try to remember, we were not so fantastic before neither are we so bad now. You need to stay calm as the season is complicated and long."

The team from Athletic de Bilbao arrived on the Island yesterday afternoon at 19.15 and are leaving on Thursday morning. They are staying in the Iberostar Hotel Mencey in Santa Cruz during their stay.

Aitor Núñez y Sergio Aragoneses were the players interviewed on Monday afternoon in the press room of the Mundialito stadium.
The defender Aitor Núñez said "We have our heads well screwed on for this game. Coming from a bad game like the Mallorca one we need to correct things so we don't make the same mistakes in the future". He followed by saying “When you don't play you have to wait but at no time have I lost the illusion to play. Every day that passes I see that I play better and am adapted to the style of play the team plays. When it was his turn to talk, Aragoneses explained in front of the journalists present that “we are looking forward to Wednesday and expect to have a good result. Our rival is a team with many class players, and because of that e need to try harder”. He continued “I don't think last weekends loss was due to euphoria or over clever attitude, as all we are looking for this year is to stay up.”

Tickets for the Madrid game can be picked up today if you have ordered them until 1pm. They are for the 4th level of the stadium which corresponds to the price Madrid are charging for on their website.

Island Dream or Island Horror

Island Dream or Island Horror yesterday it depended which Island you came from. Mallorca had a wonderful time with a 4-0 win and Tenerife came away battered with 2 sent off and a dire loss.
Supporting a team will always bring days like yesterday when you want to go away and cry but tomorrow is another day and Wednesday's game will hopefully bring better results.

Video from Zonablanquiazul in Spanish but you can see their highlights

In his blog Colin Kirby said Defence? it’s a swear word to CD Tenerife. There is no doubt our defence needs to concentrate more and passes need to be more accurate. The game was not all bad and the second part of the first half showed some great play. There were chances from

In his interview Jose Luis Oltra bluntly said "This was a game where we were not comfortable on the field a goal was scored against us and then we had some good chances. At the start of the second half we went back out to try to play up then the next 2 goals came and we tried to row against the current. The team wasn't very accurate today. You can always find good points" he continued " This is the first division and we need to be aware of the quality of play at this level. We have had 2 good games but today wasn't like that. I didn't like the way the team started, but we reacted well to Mallorca's goal. There were 20 good minutes with chances to score. In the second half the 2 other goals really killed us and then we were 10 men and at the end we were 9

When asked about the absence of Luna and Marc Bertran for the game against Atletic de Bilbao he commented that the squad is good and there are various players who can cover these positions. He would not make a comment about the referee when asked. His final statement was that "he tries not to be affected by euphoria or pessimism. We need to correct our errors and we need to work hard."

Interview with the team members included:

Ricardo who said "it hurts to lose, the first goal affected us a lot and I think Sergio (Aragoneses) was fouled. In the second half they were clearly better and we were lucky they didn't score more then the 4 goals".

Marc said "This was a lousy result we need to try to forget it and move on to the next game" He also said he hoped the club would lodge a complaint against his red card.

Manolo said " This wasn't so good. we have good and bad points but Mallorca had a good game plan and without too much effort they beat us easily. we need to think about the game about Bilbao. We need to continue to work hard. The little details have a way of costing teams a game".

Luna was sure that the first card wasn't a yellow card he said he went for the ball clearly with no intention to foul and the second he stated that maybe he touched the Mallorca player but if so it was an accident.

Mallorca V. CD Tenerife

The game this afternoon is at 5pm Canarian(UK) time. It is being shown on Pay Per View on Canal Plus which we are lucky enough to have at home and although I am not sure what they are charging I am going to watch it anyway. The Armada Sur fans are going together to watch it in Suters Bar, Parque de La Reina, Tenerife.

The Club is looking for their first away points in the Ono Stadium. They are sure that the great form they have been showing until now will stand them in great stead for gaining the 3 points available in this afternoon's game.
In an interview yesterday afternoon in Los Rodeos airport Ezequiel Luna stated "we are very excited we have worked hard all week to correct the mistakes we made in Sunday's game We will be concentrating hard for the 90 minutes of tomorrows game so we won't be making any more mistakes. In this category if you make a mistake it can cost you a goal and you lose the game."
Richie said Mallorca is a good rival, they have great players and are not going to be easy to beat, we are going to the match with our game plan and expect to play well and gain a good result. We know it has been raining a lot in Mallorca but the ground condition will be the same for both teams.
Jose Luis Oltra in his interview announced “You need to keep both feet on the ground. We aren't inferior to any team, but we are not superior either. Mallorca has 2 good results so far, but we are confident the team can show their good side.”
Miguel Concepción will be at the Mallorca v. CD Tenerife game. This is the second away game the president has managed to attend.
The team will be staying at the Hotel Tryp Bellver, in Palma de Mallorca the Capital.

Dani Kome who played for Mallorca commented that "we are going with the aim to gain 3 points. We are a humble team but we are keen to show our skills and we will continue to follow the trainers instructions." He has been injured this week but stated that is the Mister called for him to play he would be enchanted to play against Mallorca
He finished his interview saying that although he didn't play many games for Mallorca during the 2006/07 season he had enjoyed his time there and was looking forward to going back to show how well he can play.

Wednesday at 8 Saturday at 5

Tenerife v Athletic Bilbao Wednesday 23rd at 8pm

Real Madrid v Tenerife Saturday 26th at 5pm (Canarian & UK time)

If it's Tuesday this must be Belgium If it's Wednesday this must be Rome Or so the song goes ...

We now know 3 games in advance the federation is improving. For those of you in the UK the thought that we wait week in and week out to know the date and time of the following weeks game brings amazement. But here it is that way having a mid week game means we have the times of 3 games in one go. The LFP has originally decided that the game should be at 7pm Canarian time but after the club complained the time was put back to 8pm. Tickets for this game will go on sale on Monday the 21st of September at 10am.

There have been announced some statistics about the first 2 rounds of the liga BBVA. CD Tenerife has had more shots at goal than all but 2 other teams. In the 2 games they have had 35 shots at goal. Only 2 of the giants Real Madrid (46) and Athletico de Madrid (43) have had more. If we look at which player shot these passes the Alejandro Alfaro had most shots with a total of 13 followed by Barcelona player Ibrahimovic, with 11; and the Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo, con 10 (4).

In an interview Nino announced that the fans we wonderful and that the players could ask not more from the fans. When asked about his goal he replied that a forward always likes to scored but he tries not to get obsessed about it. Yesterday the players had a training day, today they are off and tomorrow they start to prepare for Saturdays game.
Román Martínez talked about how great it is to win, especially at home. Now he stated they need to continue along the same path and continue gaining points. He said he felt much more comfortable then he had against Real Zaragoza although he hopes his play continues to improve. His final comment was about the Osasuna game who he said that CD Tenerife were much better then Osasuna. And he looks forward to a victory in Mallorca.

14/09/2009

What a win but what a scorcher.

Yesterday's game was wonderful. The stadium was full, the atmosphere was great we have wonderful seats facing the home goal near the singing bench so we can hear the Frente Blanquiazul, Armada Sur and the other fan clubs as they shout and sing. I am not sure if I have mentioned it but we are sat in the Under 23 area. This is because we get a cheaper seat for my under 23 year old son. This was a great thing the club did for the young fans and the area is full. There are families like us with older children and young people. The area is noisy and given a little encouragement will be noisier. Yesterday especially towards the end of first half there was a feeling of heat malaise that was difficult to overcome. I have never see the stands empty at half time like yesterday. Everyone just wanted to get into the shade. The club had really tried to get the time of the game changed and I hope for the next Sunday game we don't have 4pm.
Playing for Tenerife were

Sergio Aragoneses; Marc Beltrán, Manolo Martínez, Ezequiel Luna, Bellvis; Ricardo, Román Martínez (Dinei, 87’); Alfaro, Richi (Mikel Alonso, 72’), Kome (Omar, 82’) y Nino.
And for Osasuna
Ricardo; Azpilicueta, Sergio, Flaño, Monreal; Puñal, Nekounam; Juanfran (Rúper, 72’), Camuñas, Masoud (Calleja, 58’) y Walter Pandiani (Portillo, 81’)

Referee
Carlos Velasco Carballo, from Madrid. He sent off with a direct red card the Irannian Nekounam (71’), for hitting the Tenerife player Román Martínez, and with a double yellow his fellow player Monreal (47’). Yellow cards were given to Tenerife player Román Martínez (38’), and Osasuna Players Flaño (17’), Aspilicueta (32’) & Puñal (61’).
Goals
1-0: (47’) Nino scored from a pass by Ricardo over the head of a defender. 1-1 (51’) Pandiani, from a header with no one marking him. 2-1: (62’) Ricardo, with a great shot from 30 metres away.
Incidents
This was the second round of the BBVA league there were approximately 18,323 spectators , and a minute silence was kept for the trainers, share holders season ticket holders, fans and their families who died during the last season and also the ex CD Tenerife player Juan Herrera.

The entrance to the game was a problem. For some reason on the San Sebastian side only 3 of the possible 5 entry gates were open causing queues and bad feeling. Some of the fans didn't get into the stands until 10 minutes after the game started. We actually got in just in time but queued for over 25 mins to enter. Hopefully Wednesday week will be better.

The game itself was great. The players played their best. We had some great shots at goal which didn't go in during the first half and then 2 great goals in the second half. Ossasuna announced that the ref was over rigorous with calls but he missed a back pass to their keeper which the keeper should not have picked up. Jose Luis Oltra said after the game that he was pleased how they played, that they they need to make better use of their chances in order not to be stressed. When asked about the time the game was played his only comment is we play when we are told but we had to eat lunch at 11.30. José A Camacho, Osasuna's trainer complained about the calls and how unfair it was to have 2 sent off.

Big game - on the radio

The lead up to Sunday's game is exciting and suspense filled. The club will be selling the season tickets until the start of the game in the Stadium. I am not sure what other clubs do but this seems like a great thing for a fan to be able to arrive the day of the first home game, pay for his season ticket and go into the game.
The team has been working all week towards tomorrows game. Kome finally came home yesterday and was able to take part in the training session. He had travelled 14,000 Km round trip and played three minutes in the game against Gabon. Still he is home safely and uninjured. Whether he will start for us hasn't been announced.
The fan clubs are calling for fans to be there when the team arrives 2 hours before the game to greet them. Also for ticket tape bits to throw as the players come out and scarves to wave as they play. I was cutting up bits of old magazine when the girlfriend I go with explained to me they have a shredder that cuts paper into great sized pieces so I am not cutting any more and she will bring bits with her for all of us. We are planing to have lunch in Santa Cruz before the game and I am not sure I will make the teams arrival this time but there will be other games.
It has been announced that next weeks game in Mallorca will be at 5pm Canarian time on Saturday. After taht we have a midweek game and then the Real Marid away game. We are still waiting to hear which dates that game is but we have flights which leave us in Madrid from Saturday am until Monday am so either day will do.

The game will be commentated on Oasis Fm in English if you can't make it or are in the UK

President Miguel Concepción says

In the last couple of days the President of Club Deportivo Tenerife has talked about in the medium to long term building a 40,000 seater stadium. This would be built in conjunction with the Canarian Government in the area between La Laguna and Santa Cruz. This was talked about yesterday when the 15,000th season ticket was bought. Jorge Perera Castro was the Tenerife fan who registered for this season ticket and he was gifted one of the going up remembrance shirts with his name on it.
There has also been stated that the club will keep communication with the Spanish football federation that home games are not played at 4pm on Sundays due to the excessive heat. although negotiations failed for Sunday the 13th of September in the game against Osasuna the club will continue to fight for the players and the fans.
The refurbishment will not be finished by the start of the season and the VIP stand is expected to be finished by the winter break. The Offices under the Popular stand should be finished by the end of the season and this will allow the club to move their administration to the Stadium grounds.
Tickets went of sale this morning from 10am in the Stadium and in the registered sale points in Puerto de La Cruz and Playa de las Americas. Tickets are expected to sell out before the game starts.
The club president also stated that he expects the club to stay in the first division this year. He expects the support for the fans to help the players maintain the high level of play they had last year.

08/09/2009

Game time confirmed

Although the club has tried to have the time of Sundays game put back an hour so we start at the same time in time terms as the rest on the other games the Spanish federation have decided that we should play at the same phyisical time as the rest of the games. I hope it is not too hot and perhaps we can wish for a cloudy day like today.
Tickets for the game go on sale on Thursday morning and will be available in the stadium, in Bar Canario, in Puerto Cruz; and in Librería Papelería Raquel y Carla, in Playa de Las Américas. As previously mentioned prices are
Tribuna: 65 euros.
San Sebastián: 45 euros.
Herradura: 35 euros.
Popular: 20 euros.

Míkel Alonso stated in an interview today that if the fans support them he is sure the team will win on Sunday. We all hope this is the case.

It is still not clear who will play in Juanlu's place.
Juanlu and Culebras are the only players on the injured list and Culebras is expected to train with the rest of the team from next week.

CD Tenerife B had their first win in 2B this season beating Cerro Reyes 3-0. The away team ended up with 9 players on the field and missed a penalty which could have equalised them at 1-1

07/09/2009

Long week

Last week was a very long week the transfer market is closed and there was no build up to the game. Nothing really exciting happened and the stadium refurbishment hasn't really moved forward. There were international games to look forward to but thats not quite the same.
This week on the other hand is full of excitement. Our first home game is on Sunday at 4pm. I feel sorry for the team who are coming as 4pm here is very hot and this will be a home advantage all season.
The people who haven't collected their repeat season tickets up to now can no longer do it via the club web page or the Cajacanarias they now have to do it in the stadium. Up to now 15,100 tickets have peen paid for. This is 1400 more than the best ever record for the club.
the refurbishments will need to come this week if not the VIP area then at least the singing stand would be great to have seating. If you sell seats it would be good to have them in place
The photos below are from the Armada Sur fan club Forum.

Marc Bertran - happy with his position

Although there had been several teams interested in buying Marc he is staying here in Tenerife. Zaragoza had offered 2 million euros for him but were turned down by the club who are interested to maintain the block from last year and have added to it with players like Dinei and Roman.

In an interview this week Marc Bertran CD Tenerife's new captain announced that he is very happy to have been elected main captain. He stated in an interview yesterday that he was happy the club had shown maximum faith in him. He talked about the players commitment to the next game at home against Ossasuna which they are going to play with maximum effort. He also commented on the fact that the home fans are a big support in the trail to stay in the first division.

There have been over 1000 tickets applied for for the following weekends game on the 27th away against Real Madrid. The requests are high as it is an important game but also because the stadium is easy to get to from here with no flight change or long journey on arrival in Barajas.

Aitor Nuñez has a contract with the second team Tenerife B although he is expected to play for the first team. This was a technical decision which leaves the club with 4 free spaces in case they need to buy more players in the winter break. Nuñez said when he first heard he was shocked but after speaking with Santiago Llorente he understood the club's position and was happy with this.

The sale of season tickets continues both in the club and in the Centro Comercial Meridiano
