Draw in Malaga

CD Tenerife is still alive and they showed it on Saturday in La Rosaleda, where the group lead by José Luis Oltra earned a well deserved point against Malaga. The refereeing at the end left somthing to be desired but what can you say. Not sure why Alfaro took the penalty but glad for him and the team we finally managed to score a penalty.

Photo of Entertainer Joss as promised.

Here is the photo I promised of our new entertainer Joss. He is a lot of fun and last week someone already managed to win a free weeks holiday with him in the Millionaire game.
The other person in the photo is Kirsty from the Paradise Divers the dive school onsite here in Tropical Park.

Sorry I didn't get around to blogging on Thursday but it was busy. I came back from the UK and had loads to do. I had forgotten how much it rains but it wasn't as cold as I thought it would be. Durham in a great town with great shopping nearby so I am sure I will go and visit my son whilst he is there.

It's our turn to win away. - Pablo Sicilia

"It's our turn to win away." These were the words of Pablo Sicilia in an interview this week. He followed it with the statement that this would help the team save itself. " We need to get out on the field with the same determination we had against Espanyol. The team is good and you can see this in the work we do day by day. We need to look to the future and no one should have any doubts about our comitment in Chapin." He continued that, "the block worked hard defensively last weekend and we need to continue that line. Also we need to make less mistakes so our rival has no chances."

José Luis Oltra trainer for CD Tenerife said in yesterday's interview that the game was very important. "For them it is a live or die game and for us too. We can have no doubts, in the case we win it is a thump on the table.”

When asked about the opposing team the Valencian trainer reminded " That no one has won clearly in Chapin. They are a team with good points and the are playing for everything. Whatever happens we have three games in a week and we are going to try to win the first one."

On the same theme the trainer continued saying "There is very little recuperation time but we have no excuse for this. Anyway right now the only game which interests me is the one against Xerez. The game this Saturday is the only one in the heads of the players and in mine."

Oltra, also talked abpout Xerez "The have changed their style over the course of the league. With Gorosito they won two games and are a convincing team. I hope to see a difficult game with work and hard fought plays. They know they have very little time left."

“What ever happens”, he continued "we need to keep on winning. This is a primordial game for the two sides. We need to go out convinced, with maximum faith and a need to win." Lastly José Luis Oltra talked of the state of mind of the players, "The group is intense, the work we did paid off with the victory last weekend" he added and then concluded " I am concerned with Tenerife and leaving three teams with less points than us. Then I will be the happiest man alive."

Words from the players

Unanimously the team members interviewed after the game on Sunday against Español wanted to dedicate the win to the fans. Nino, Culebras, Richi, Ricardo & Héctor all felt the win against the team from Barcelona was justified and showed the work they had put in all season.
Comments included:

Nino: “The most important thing is the three points, our greatest asset is our fans, they deserve that we stay in the first division. This season football hasn't been fair with us. Finally our luck changed and I hope it will stay this way. In La Coruna against Deportivo we played a great game but the result wasn't there. The three points give the whole team confidence. We need to fight and show we are still alive.”

Culebras: “The result was fantastic both for the goals and the result. We were more aggressive. We tried to return the confidence the fans showed in us by giving our all. To keep faith with the fans. The win was important but also the goal average as you never know if that will count at the end.”

Richi: “The team was always following a great line but the results didn't show that. Today we have shown this is the way to play achieving the three points we so certainly needed. Now we have shown that all is not lost and although we have made mistakes we still have chances. The whole group is prepared to fight. Now we need to look to the game against Jerez which is an important game. I know I was lucky with the goal.”

Ricardo: “We played a good game and deserved to win. This score will help us a lot. The encounter had everything. Defensively we were very good today, now we need to enjoy the feeling of the win and then look forward to the game against Jerez. All the games are very paired and we will need to fight hard to continue winning. The fans have been with us the whole season.”

Héctor: “I am so proud of the work we did today. This is the way to go. Now we need to think about the game in Xerez. All the games that are left are finals and we need to keep wining them. I am going home very happy and really appreciate the support from the fans. I am doing well this year and I am pleased to be able to help the team which is what we all want.”

We will not give up.

This was the theme at the meeting yesterday between the 4 captains the president and members of several of the fan clubs.

The club website states:
Yesterday there was a meeting between the representatives of the following groups,
Frente Blanquiazul, Peña Teguestera, Rincón Blanquiazul, Guayota Guanche, Armada Sur, Zoneros, Instinto Blanquiazul, Peña Salamanca, Puntera & Sentimiento Blanquiazul.

During one and a half hours the fan clubs offered their maximum support to the four captains from the first team who were present, Marc Bertrán, Ayoze García, Manolo Martínez & Sergio Aragoneses, With the aim to help them through the last two months of the season where the team needs to achive their aim to remain the the first division of the BBVA league. Also at this meeting was the president of the entity, Miguel Concepcion.

The Instincto blanqiazul website states:

The fan clubs wish to express their complete support for the team. With only two months left of the season the obligation for everyon is to be united to achieve the goal we all desire, to remain in the first division.
The support from the fan clubs and animation groups inside and outside the stadium is absolute and extra effort will be made especially for the remaining six home games in the H. Rodríguez López stadium.
It was agreed that everyone needs to row in the same direction with a clear plan and objective. We are capable of fighting and overcoming all the adversities that are in front of us. This is the moment to support not criticize the club and the players. If we show we are all on the same side it will be difficult for anyone to overcome our strength.
To the players who give everything, sacrifice, union, commitment, illusion, desire, effort, motivation, support, who form the head and heart of the club day by day. When you look at this it is easy to work together to reach to goal that is so important to all of us.
Do you remember how it was last June with 200,000 people in the streets celebrating the clubs achievement. This memory, these unforgettable feelings can't be let go so easily. What we celebrated then, today and in the future we need to defend and maintain.
We will see you at 14.15 at gate 31 in in the stadium on the Avda. San Sebastian side to show our support for the club and the players. To show the world the support for feelings of the blue and white fans.

11/03/2010

Support your team.

Support is something that has never been lacking from the CDT fans. Whether we are talking about the 8000/9000 fans who were supporting the team in the season 07/08 or the nearly 20,000 who fill the stadium week after week now in this season. That there are some fans who are fed up with the president, the trainer or the odd player that is without doubt. But in the main there is just a wish to support the team the best we can.
There has been a call this week for the fans to attend Suturday morning training at 10am in the Helidoro Lopez stadium. Fed up fans don't go the day before the game to watch their team train. They don't turn up at the stadium in hundreds two plus hours before the game to greet the players when they arrive at the stadium. As our fans do, the call for this Sunday is at 13.45 if you can be there.
There is without doubt a feeling that we are close to the wire. That if we can't gain a few points now it will be too late but there are still 39 points in play. There is still a chance to stay up and I for one will be at every game possible to support my team in the hope they stay up.

There is a meeting tonight between the fan clubs, the president and the 4 captains. As soon as I know waht was said I will report back here.

Tickets for the Espanol game on Sunday go on sale today from 10 am.
The club shop has the white shirt on offer from Friday at 10:00 - 13:30 & from 17:00 - 20:30 & Saturday, from 10:30 to 14:00 horas.

Interview with the two captains.

In an interview with the two captains after Saturdays games they made the following statements, calling for support from the fans in the next two months:

Ayoze: “There are 13 finals left. Six of these are at home and we need the maximum support from the fans to help us on our way.”

Marc Bertrán: “If we are all on the same side it will be easier. I know that the fans haven't failed us all year , but now more than ever is when we need their help and support.”

Ayoze: “We have come to the deciding point in the season. Last year we showed the team and fans, when we are together we are hard to beat, and we can confront anyone.”

Marc Bertrán: “The group are conscious of the problems. The players know what the risks are and for our willingness there will be no sending us down. This squad will force itself to the maximum to manage to reach the goal of salvation .”

Ayoze: “We have now played all the complicated rivals. Now coming to our grounds are teams like us, the ones looking for salvation. Here we have rivals like Espanyol, Valladolid, Racing & Almería. Against them we will play for staying up.”

Marc Betrán: “We will not give up, that is clear. Fighting to the end is something the team and players have in their hearts.”

Ayoze: “There are still 39 points left to play and everything is possible. The league is more equal than ever and this could help us.”

Marc Betrán: “Although there are some points for us to salvation, for me it is clear that CD Tenerife needs to depend on itself to keep from going down to the next level."

Interviews after the Deportivo game with the coach

José Luis Oltra seemed calm in at the press conference on Saturday after the game against Deportivo La Coruña. The blue and whites trainer repeated he was proud of the players and the way they played. He avoided no question and no responsibility.

Oltra started analising the game in the following terms:" We saw the same film as always in an away game. Three shots at goal and three goals by the oposing team. We were good but always some mistake condems us. It has been incredible. It is hard for me to go out and value games like this afternoons. I know it is hard but the team is still there in with a chance. Playing like this the victories will come. The team never gives up, they always fight. Will will be recompensed for this. I believe and am working for that.”

Whan Oltra was asked which route he shopuld take to make the ream react, he responded with a question, "Do we need to follow the same line?, We need to change the results but the way to play away forom home is the way we played today. We were serious and organised, and we had chances. All this would change if we won a gameand the path to follow is the one form this afternoon. That said there are clearly thing to correct.”

When asked about the capability of the team and if he himself could see the salvation, he replied" this sort of valuation needs to be done at the end of the season. Now I believe in the team, I belive they are commited to acheive the objectives. I am the one to blame the one who makes the most mistakes. But I repeat i believe in the way we play. i am confident we will reach our goal.”

When asked about the role of Miguel Concepción, Oltra said that “The president is always with the group. He is a person who organises well, who always supports us. Today he has said nothing specific neither to me nor to the players.”

Return to Riazor, the scene of their saving.

One goal changed our life. One goal by Eduardo Ramos in Riazor permitted CD Tenerife to stay out of relegation to the second division. This was on the 10 of June 1990. The blue and whites are going back on Saturday to the Galician stadium, that almost 20 years ago marked their resurrection.

Then CD Tenerife played for staying up in the first division against Deportivo. One header from a CD Tenerife player opened a new stage in the Tenerife history.

That goal marked a before and after. It was the end of a suffering and an entry into a happy time. The 0-1 served for the team to maintain their position in the elite. After the 0-0 from the home game played a week before in the Heliodoro.

Even if CD Tenerife had lost four times in Riazor they have never won when they were in the first division. They have drawn once and lost five times. Those four wins are long ago the first being in 23 of September in 1973, Cd Tenerife managed a 0-2 win with goals from Mauro y Gilberto.

Then ten years passed before they won again on the 25 of September in 1984, with goals from Rubén Cano y Lasaosa making the score enough to overcome the Depo resistance.

After that there was a win in the season 88-89. Guina, Rommel Fernández & Víctor scored for CD Tenerife, whilst Gil scored to only Galician goal. In this season, CD Tenerife managed to go up to the first division.

The next time they came face to face was in the remembered game for the ascension. After the 0-0 achieved in the Heliodoro, the blue and white islanders needed a good game not to return to the second division. Against adversity, in a full stadium with a hostile audience, Eduardo Ramos, with a header, saved Tenerife.

Since then, whenever the teams have encountered themselves in the first division, CD Tenerife has never managed a win. the first game in the elite finished with a 1-1 draw after goals by Felipe & Claudio.

The following year, they drew again, this time with 2-2. Ezequiel Castillo & Dertycia scored for the visitors, whilst Fran & Bebeto did the same for their team. This year, the 92/93, both teams had good results, finishing with the Galicians in third place and the Canarians in fifth.

On the 17 of April in 1994, Deportivo won for the first time in the first division. Claudio Barragán scored two goals, whilst CD Tenerife finished with 10 as Dertycia was sent off. In that season, The Cournian team lost the league in the last round in a game against Valencia. The title went to FC Barcelona.

The 4-1 of the 94-95 season saw a “hat trick” from Bebeto. Then there were two draws and two losses. The penultimate visit by CD Tenerife to Riazor in a league game occurred on the 14 of March in 1999. With goals from Djalminha andl Turu Flores, Irureta players won by 2-0.

The teams last visit to Riazor saw a loss. On the 24 of March the game (3-1) saw Javier Clemente deserve more. Lussenhoff scored after 30 minutes. Scaloni equalised with 15 minutes left to play and in the last seconds Scaloni y Makaay sentenced the game.

Interview Jose Luis Oltra 27/02/2010

" Even with the loss the line to follow is the one we saw today." This was the phrase that José Luis Oltra announced in the press conference on Saturday night after the CD Tenerife - Real Madrid game. The trainer repeated that he is proud of the players as they never gave up.
The trainer of the blue and whites explained that " every loss hurts and if it is a big score loss this hurts even more. We lost against a great team, a team with wonderful abilities. In the fist half they shot at goal twice and scored two goals. We then managed the 1-2 but their third goal came very quickly. But the team never stopped fighting. There is a great difference between the two teams.”
He continued his analysis of the weekends game. " with the 1-3 most teams would have stopped fighting but we didn't. Even with the score so hard to overcome we had various shots at goal. Real Madrid is very solid in defence. Even with the loss we need to keep on the path we followed today. I continue to believe in the team even with the away results. There are 14 finals left, starting in La Coruña. We are conscious that our options mean we need to win the home games. Not every game is against a team like Real Madrid"
He continued "My job is to see that the team gives their all. There is one club, one Island and one set of fans who respond to us every week. Our goal is to fight. We are going to achieve salvation, with suffering, with pain but we will achieve it." insisted the trainer.
Oltra reminded that the team continues with their head held high: " I try to look for the best way to win. You can blame the team for nothing, today they played the best thy could. What happened is we played a team with different dynamics and with a great ability to score. The difference in the field is not what is reflected in the score. Although that is just an opinion."

"My work and mental effort and that of the group is what will get us out of here. The feeling when you lose is bad. The losses make people sad.” finished the local trainer.

CD Tenerife 1 - Real Madrid 5

This was always going to be a hard game. Their budget for the year is so far away from ours we could be talking about Monopoly money. But it is the last of the big home games. This leaves us with the need to win all the rest of the home games without fail. Left to visit are Espanol, Villareal, Valladolid, Getafe, Racing and Almeria. If we could add to that points against Xerez and maybe one other then we would be saved, I think
