Saturday against Racing de Santander

Reading the newspaper this morning it came to my attention that Valladolid sold their seats out for this weekends game yesterday 4 and a half hours after they opened their ticket sales. I am not sure if they had an offer or not but at a time when the team really needed their fans Real Valladolid's came good for the team. I hope the same will be true for us. It doen't matter so much if we are full but a good turnout would really help the atmosphere in the stadium.
I am lucky this weendend to have a ticket for behind the goal. I know it is not everyones idea of a great place to sit/stand but I really like it. You may not be able to see the other goal very well but the singing a support for the team make up for the negatives. This is a game that really counts one of our last chances to save ourselves.
The club has asked fans to be outside the stadium at 15.15 to see the team arrive and greet them. This is something that all this year fans have done and it shows the support that the team feel towards the club and the players.
Tickets go on sale from today with the ticket offices open office hours today and tomorrow and on Saturday from 10 am until the start of the game. Tomorrow Friday the team will train in the Helidoro Rodriguez Lopez stadium and afterwards Jose Luis Oltra will meet the press and anounce the list of the players who will be present for the game.
From today you can buy a Solidarity CDT bracetlet from which monies raised will go to help people with financial difficulties in the programme “Santa Cruz + Social”.

Weekend in Madrid

If only we had won the weekend would have been perfect.
Saturday morning saw us in Tenerife airport on aour way to Madrid again for the away game against Atletico Madrid. The flight was plain sailing and we had another "ontime" flight with Ryanair.

The afternoon flew by and we headed into the city centre to find the others but it wasn't to be. I should have remembered in the Irish bar in Sol the noise level is so bad that no one can hear their phone.
Sunday saw us again on our way into Sol and this time we found some of the other fans from Armada Sur. Some were more fragile but everyone was having a good time.
Slowly we moved twards the stadium where my son met up with his friends who are at universtiy in Madrid and that was the last we saw of him for several hours.
We stopped with several other Tenerife fans to have a drink in one of the bars outside the stadium and were invloved in a long conversation with Athletic fans about which team Atleti would be better playing in the final of the Europa League if they made the made the next round.
We moved into the stadium with high hopes but it wasn't to be. Maybe it was the stadium or the players just couldn't on the day. Atletico scored 2 goals. We had chances, Ayoze hit the goal post in the first 10 minutes but their defence was strong and it seemed when we reached their goal area there were 7 or 8 defending. In the second half Roman scored with a pass from Dinei and it seemed that we might be able to equalise but there you go then Aguero scored a third goal for Atletico Madrid and that was it. The Atletico ultra fans decided it would be fun to shout "Your going down to the second division" and that hurt. Maybe though it did our team a favor as the Tenerife fans went from complete silence to strong support as the game finished.
We need now to look forward to Saturdays game against Racing de Santander which we need to win.

Creemos en Primera - The club's new video spot.

Club Deportivo Tenerife has a new Video spot which can be seen here
I really like it. The club seems to be doing their best to work with the fans and the fan clubs to get the team the support it needs.
This weekend if you are not going to Madrid to see the first team play you might go to the CIAT to see the second team play and there is even a chance whilst you are there to win entry tickets for the CD Tenerife - Racing game. The second team like the first team came up from a lower division and is struggling with relegation. Lets hope both teams do well and stay up.
The team are flying to Marid tomorrow but I can't find on the club website from which airport they are flying and where they are staying so if you know leave me a message.

Game notes CDT 3- Getafe CF 2

I really dragged myself to Santa Cruz on Sunday. I had hoped to get there to see the team arrive but flu had struck and I managed to get there in time to meet the Armada Sur fans before the game. Boy was I glad I made it. This was a really nail biting game. We started out reasonably but with Getafe in control. They had their first shot at goal after 7 minutes which left the fans worried and proved rightly so when they scored after 10 minutes. CDT put their minds to the game and started to fight back. Coming up to the 30 minute mark Nino scored his first goal from a pass by Roman. The game went up and down the pitch and at half time the score was still 1-1.

At half time I said to my other half I could see this going either way but I hoped we would be ok. I am not superstitious and as the players came back on the pitch I could only hope we would play our best. The begining of the second half has often been our weakness this season but on Sunday this was where the players came out with fire in their bellies. Comments in the newspaper on Monday say that trainer Jose Luis Oltra gave the team a bollocking at half time that could be heard all over the changing room area. Mikel passed the ball into the area, then Roman did the same. It seemed any minute one of the teams could score and CD Tenerife managed just that. Marc Bertran played the ball to Nino and Nino put the ball away making the score 2-1. Getafe didn't take this lying down and off they went. Cortés, played the ball to the penalty box, where Casquero headed it into the goal. A draw was never going to be enough for Tenerife's plans for salvation and the team played with all they had for a third goal. A minute later after a defensive error Nino scored his first hat trick in Primera and put away another goal. The crowd went wild, not since the home game against Jerez last season have I seen that much enthusiasum. The last 15 minutes were nerve racking and then the referee gave five minutes extra time. All this time the blue and whites managed to hold on and maintain their lead.
This coming Sunday is in the Calderon against Atletico Madrid and hopefully they will be more concentrated on their Europa League games. As another win should finally put us out of relegation.
Point of interest - In the Spanish league national player Villa has 20 goals to his name. The next Spanish players with 13 goals are Nino and Llorente. Of Llorente's 13 goals 4 are from penalties.

Great day

There is something wonderful about a win. Especially as we have awaited this one so long. After 32 rounds CD Tenerife seized the day and won away. FOr a great decription of how this feels try Colin Kirby's blog. He has a great way with words and describes how a lot of us feel today.

Tickets go on sale from Thursday morning. The club is organising a giant paella for those who can come to greet the team at 13.30 on Sunday for the game against Getafe.

There is euphoria online tonight as CD Tenerife managed their first away win. On their way to Gijon.

The team are on their way to Gijon right now. Their plan for the day is to get settled into the hotel and then late this afternoon have one training session before tomorrows game. Miguel Concepción the club president will be at the game tomorrow at 7pm. The game is on Pay Per View. El Molinon is a staium which has been lucky for CDT in the past.
The teams around Tenerife didn't play very well either. Valldolid drew with us. Xerez lost against Getafe, Zaragoza lost against Ossasuna and Malaga against Sevilla. Racing managed a draw against Deportivo La Coruña and only Español a win taking them up to 37 points with Almeria, Osasuna, and Sporting.

There were slogans painted on the stadium walls overnight between Saturday and Sunday with messages that included in Spanish Mercenaries, Players with no pride and you should feel your colours. There was also a message to Santago Llorente but the AS newspaper couln't work out what it said. These have now been painted over by staff from the club.

The second team lost against Alcorcon, the Nº1 team in the B group of Segunda B taking them into relegation positions. · Tenerife players were sent off, one with a direct red card and two with double yellow ones. Alcorcon are now qualified for the play offs to go up to segunda A. Next CD Tenerife B  play Atletico B at home. Atletico B are 5th in the league right now.

There is still talk about a strike this coming weekend but by the end of today there should be a clear picture if the players union will reccomend a strike or not.

Grey game against Valladolid.

This was not one of CDT's great games. Nino was aparently poorly before the start but insisted to play. I am not sure who we would have played if not him so we need to give thanks he hasn't been injured.
Valladoild seemed to be playing for a draw. With a new trainer perhaps that is all they could hope for. If it comes to the end and we have the same points as them then the away gaols don't cont so we would be judged on goal difference. Not a good thought right now.

Creemos - We believe

Creemos is what the club president said this week when interviewed. We believe, the team can save itself. That has to start today with the game against Valladolid. The president himself has called for the fans to be outside the stadium to see the players arrive at 17.15. The fan clubs will be selling T-shirst with the word "Creemos" on them for the ammount of one Euro. The money raised will go to the fan clubs to help with decorations around the stadium for the next few home games.

Ticket sales have been slow as the game which starts after the Tenerife game is the Classic Madrid - Barcelona. It is sad that people who call themselves fans want more to stay home and watch another team than their own team in its hour of need. The ticket offices will be open all day today if you still need to buy a ticket.

Round up

Round up for this week:

We have dates for the next two games. CD Tenerife is playing away on Tuesday against Sporting de Gijon on Tuesday at 19.00 and at home against Getafe on Sunday the 18th of april at 4pm.

Halcon Viajes have a package for the Sporting game leaving Tenerife South on Monday the 12th of April with the return being on Tuesday at about 22.30. The trip includes a bus from Oviedo to Gijon and a night in the Hotel Begoña Park, and the entrance to the game in el Molinon.

Real Valladolid, the next rival for CD Tenerife, are due to arrive on the island at 14,45 on Friday on a plane form Madrid. With them will be their president Carlos Suárez. The same day the team will train with their new trainer in the Ciudad Deportiva of CD Tenerife at 19:30. The purple players are staying in the Hotel Silken Atlántida, in the capital of Santa Cruz.

Carlos Velasco Carballo will be the referee for Saturday's game between CD Tenerife and Real Valladolid, A referee with whom we have had a fair amount of luck. Of the four game he has refereed for us two have been ins and the other two have been draws.

The club and the fan clubs will be handing out shirts like the ones above for fans who go to greet the team. The cost of the shirts is symbolic as it is 1 euro and the money raised will go towards providing colour in the stadium for home games. Fans who are outside the grounds at 17.15 can buy their shirts and greet the team as they arrive on the Tribuna side.

The Club president Miguel Concepcion stated in an interview this week that "we are in difficult times, and because of this we call for calm. In difficult moments you need to keep a cool head." He added" we want to keep the union between the club and the fans. The team is in good spirits preparing itself for the last eight games that we have to play. This Saturday is the first of the eight finals. Nothing is in our mind but a win against Valladolid and then the journey to Gijon a stadium historically lucky for us. And this is what we need to go adding to the points too. We have to reach the 43 points we need to save ourselves. The team is together and in great condition. The team believes. We all believe. This is my message for the press" added the maximum leader of the club.
"This project was formed to stay up, not to do so would be a failure" recognised Concepcion who stated, "I respect the opinions of others but this have been a four year plan and whatever happens it is a job which has satisfied a lot of fans. We have done our best with the possibilities we had."
”The club council feels if we go down we will try again next year to go back up. But right now there is no need to think about that. We are dependent on ourselves. Jose Luis Oltra will finish the season with us and for next year we need to see where we are to be able to make decisions."“Clemente is a great trainer but we need to think about  CD Tenerife. In our stadium we are difficult to beat.” considered Miguel Concepción when asked about the game this Saturday in Real Valladolid.

When asked about the CD Tenerife B team, the president said "we follow the training and play of all the lower teams. We will see if next year players for the B team can come up to lay in the first team. This is the joy of the youth sides."

Talking of the B team there is a rumour in the AS newspaper that Airam is going to play for Villareal B next season.

Sevilla 3 - CD Tenerife 0 Game notes.

This was never going to be an easy game. Inspite of the present difficulties Sevilla find themselves, they have some great players. The second game with their new trainer they didn't play very well but managed to make the most of an error in Tenerife's defence for Kanoute to score the first goal. Luis Fabiano showed why he is a world class player with his shot just before the end of the first half taking the score to 2-0. In the second half  Jose Carlos took a free kick after a foul which was an outstanding goal. Tenerife had chances but didn't manage to convert them into goals. Dinei was in the starting lineup for the first time in the league this season.  Alfaro couldn't play for contractual reasons.
Over 200 CDT fans were in the stadium and the president Miguel Conception attended at the game.
