Luis Garcia speaks

Luis García: “We are excited to start back to work. That way we can forget the pain of the end of last season.”
The CD Tenerife keeper is confident that the team can "have a great season which ends with going back up to the first division". Luis Garica is for the third season Keeper with CD Tenerife. He made these declaractions to the club website.

Are you working hard for these last days of your holidays?
Thats it. We are all keen to get back to work, because the end of last season was painful. Now we need to make things better. Lets see if we can form a good team and end the season with our return to the elite division.

Are you keen to get back to playing?
Yes. The league finished early and I didn't play all year. But now we start from scratch  with a new trainer and I want to work hard to get the chance to play.

This season you will have Gonzalo Arconada as trainer. Are you pleased about this change?
I think José Luis did a great job, But the sports director has decided the team needed a change and I hope this will bring us luck and we will have a great year.

The new team is starting to form with the arrival of Antonio Hidalgo. ¿Are you confident that Santiago Llorente  will manage to make a group with guarantees?
For sure,  Santiago had demonstarted that in the first year, when he foremd a team to go up and that is what we did. We need to have patience as the market is hard right now. The club has said it will make an effort to have a team that is fit to achieve the higest positions and I am sure the sports director will bring good players who we will receive with open arms.

¿What message would you send to the fans?
I have been here 2 years and they have never failed us. I just ask that they stay the same. There will be difficult moments and we need their help. We need to stick together to overcome this hard year.

Lastly, ¿Are you following the world cup?, ¿Do you think Spain will win on Sunday?
Thats what we all want. Spain, Is actually a better team than Holland, but football is football and this above all is a difficult game. We are here at a moment of unique oportunity and I am confident that at the end the triumph will be ours.

Nino talks of staying

In the Newspaper AS this morning there is a quote form Nino saying "I am really relaxed because I want to renew here. If I wasn't here I would no have gone elsewhere. I would have forced the situation. I am sure the who renovation process will be sorted soon".

This is great news for the team and the fans who see the player as a step towards a return to the first division.

The club website also has an interview which includes the comments:
"The pre-season is hard. You need to adapt your body and we are all giving everything in every training session. There is a good atmosphere in the squad. We are working hard, we are a good block and there is a desire to play well. We are an experiencedgroup who know their qualities, the fans we rely on, the stadium, the club.....But we need to go step by step as the league is very long".
Nino also admited that "there will be other teams who are looking to meet the same goals as us. We shouldhave respect for them. What is clear is that nothing will be won by December. If we are going to asscend we need to go little by little to the end. We kenw the team needed new players and the squad is now much improved. This will allow us to be more competitive, which is what we needed".
When asked about trainer Gonzalo Arconada Nino was very clear, "He is a good trainer, demanding and communicative. He wants the team to give one hundred percent and we are all adapting to his wants".

Miguel Concepcion in La Palma.

Miguel Concepción was on Friday in Barlovento. The president of  CD Tenerife took the time to visit the Mayor Lázaro Brito, of the area thanking him once again for the support given to the team by everyone in the area. The president had time to talk to the press. He made the following comments about the club.
Preseason. “I have been informed about everything that went on here in Barlovento. What we already knew has been confirmed. The trainer is happy because the squad is showing good form. He actually expected them to be in less shape than they are. He is very happy".
Signings. "We are making a great effort and sacrifice financially to have a competitive team, that can start with good expectations. Everything that improves the group is to our benefit. Julio Álvarez had offers in the first division, but he belived in our project and has decided to come to Tenerife. This shows the form we are going to have. We are miking a team with plans. On paper we are the favourites butthen we will need to work long and hard. The idea is to recover what we lost at the end of last season".
Central defenders. "You all know that we are in discussion for Prieto to be one of our players. He would come on loan but this isn't fixed yet. I never say anything is so when it isn't. We hope to finish these discussions soonWe are missing two central defenders and we will find them. We are also looking in the international market."
Marc Bertran & Nino - "We are counting on Marc Bertran. There were offers for him but they were not serious offers. We are confident he will stay. He has one year left on his contract and we are sure he will be playing here. We are sure over the year we will negotiate that he stays longer. We have had offers for Nino too but we want to count on both these players. Some agreement could always happen but of the offers that have been made nothing came of them".
Season tickets - “We have 1300 renewed season tickets. This is a holiday time and it shows. We hope the new signings will help enthuse people to renew. I hope the press will help us create enthusiasm for our new project. Monday will be the first day that you can buy a new season ticket and I am sure there will be moe sold then. The number of renewals is normal for the date".
Calendar.- “The calendar is al the same. Every game we need to go out and fight our hardest. I am loking forward to the team going out there and winning . I will be going to the game in Girona and hope we will win there. It would be great to get to the derby, have everything tied up and they could make us an honour parade. But the league is long and hard. I hope the team will fight to go up from the first game. The derby at the end could be lovely, like a gold watch for Canarian football. It will be a great game. Best would be if neither have anything to play for by then”.
Friendlies.- “We are greatful to Barlovento, the town hall and the town team, el Norte. The freindly we play here every year has been to help pay for the grounds. This year we prefered to pay them for the time we have used the ground. Then there will be the games against Marino & Zaragoza. before we go to the mainland. Once there we will play against Almería & Betis. We didn't manage to arrange a game against Hercules but we are in negotiation with Levante.  In any case we will play against important rivals. The presentation game for the Trofeo Ciudad de Santa Cruz is not yet fixed. We are still looking for a team”.

Walk in the mountains

As an alternative to training twice a day the players Wednesday embarked on a long walk through Los Tilos natural reserve park. Leaving the hotel La Palma Romántica at 10 am They set off by bus to the park.  arriving at 10.25 they walked through the nature site until 1pm. They then lunched in the park in La Laguna.
“The idea is to change the routine. To show the team that there are different ways of doing things. It will be good to do something together as a group”. Was how trainer Gonzalo Arconada explained the outing. The only player not on the walk was Luis Garcia who is still recovering from a slight injury.
Today Thursday training followed a more conventional patten with ball sessions at 10am and 6pm.

The club has confirmed the first friendly game will be on the 30th of July at 9pm in the Antonio Dominguez stadium in Los Cristianos against CD Marino, a team in the third Spanish division

Week in La Palma

Carlos Bellvís & Omar Ramos were the two players who spoke to the press on Sunday in the press area at Los Rodeos airport minutes before their Islas Airways flight to La Palma. There they will start their stage of the pre-season training. The two players talked about how they saw the upcoming season and the objectives signaled by the club.

Bellvis started stating that "my impressions are good. We are enjoying great training sessions, both morning and evening all with the ball. We are getting to know each other. Both the new players and the youths form the second team. We are now going to La Palma to carry on the same routine and work hard." When asked about his health problems bearing in mind that last season he couldn't play at 100 %  he commented "I feel better. I worked during the holidays with a physiotherapist and now I have less pain. I have worked at strengthening the groin area and right now there is no pain. I do have cramps but that is normal at this stage in the year."
He was also asked about Grégory Beranger, the player who he will need to fight for a place to play. "In La Palmas he was injured but in Numancia he played well. Last season he had similar injury problems to me. He is a good full back. What is clear is that this year the competition is going to be hard and that is good for a team".

Bellvís didn't hide the plan for the team, which is clearly that they will fight to go back to the highest level of football in Spain: "We are going to fight to go back up. We need a strong team to go as high as possible. The base is formed and what is certain is I see this as a good group. The players signed seem to me to be the right ones, they add to the squad".

Omar Ramos , "I am starting my fifth pre-season with the club and I will try to do the best I can. We are all happy and working hard. The idea is to be in great condition for the start of the league." the midfielder started, obviously showing signs that the new trainer Arconada wanted the team to show. He commented that the “míster” is a great trainer and that he likes things to be orderly.
Omar Ramos knows that he is one of the great hopes for CD Tenerife in the upcoming season . In his second professional season for the club, having spent the first season in the premier division the player who came up throuth the youth teams explained "Last year was for me a great year but for the club and the team it was not so good. The idea this year is to carry on working hard and hope there are no injuries. We need to charge our batteries so we can give the season our all. I hope to play better this year. To manage that the first thing I need to do is get fit, both for me and for the club”.

When asked about the competition over his place Omar has clear that the fight with Dani Kome will be hard "Everyone wants to play. Competition is good for you. My objective is to train as hard as possible to show the coach that I am fit to play in the team".

New shirts

Fan power really does work. Luanvi had stated in an interview in June that there would be no cross on the second strip. Across the interent in CD Tenerife fan forums there was outcry. A call went up for the fans to complain and obviously something had a effect as when the shirts were shown today the second strip has a Tenerife cross over the left shoulder
The first shirt once again after several years has a blue band and has a picture of Mount Teide on it. The third strip will be green this year changing from the burgundy of last year.
I have to say I like them very much.

_________________________________

The medicals continued today including Marc Bertran and Juan Lu Hens. Juan Lu has just signed for the next 4 years with the club. He commented that he was"very pleased to extend his stay here in Tenerife. CD Tenerife has show they have faith in me. To be here for the next four years is important. I am very happy. We have a new trainer and we need to adapt to his ideas as soon as possible. Here on the island I have had some great experiences and I will always need to work well and hard ". he finished.

Marc Bertran also spoke to the press and said, "We have had a long holiday to rest and recuperate. This will be an important season". When asked about his future he stated, "I am not going to talk about the future. I need to concentrate on the day by day work. Tenerife has laid out an ambitious plan. We need to fight to be as high in the table as possible, as going up is the plan". When asked about Gonzalo Arconada he remarked that "I am sure the new coach will make the squad perform" finally he finished telling that "I was looking forward to getting back to work and starting the new project, I know that the second division is always hard. There will be many teams with a chance until the end".

Medical Checks for the start of the new season.

The pre-season is starting, first are the medical tests the players must undergo each season to be sure they are fit to play.

The first 5 Players passed their medicals yesterday in the standard tests taken before they can start pre-season training. These were Ricardo, Pablo Sicilia, Omar Ramos, Iriome González y Rubén Rosquete. Interestingly all local players.

The tests took place in the Clínica Parque, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife from 10 am in the morning. Doctor Juan José Valencia was in charge of the examination with the assistance of his collegue Alejandro de la Rosa, a cardiologist.

The footballers took blood for complete round of tests, a chest x-ray, a chest eco-cardio test, and a resistance test.

Tuesday the players going for tests are Luis García, Sergio Aragoneses, Carlos Bellvís, Aitor Núñez & Ezequiel Luna, and then on Wednesday the following shold be tested: Marc Bertrán, Juanlu Hens, Mikel Alonso, Dani Kome & Nino.
As a side note, Mikel was in Johanesburg with his father to watch his brother win the world cup so I am not surprised he is in Wednesday's group. He predicted the win but thought it would be 2-0 for Spain.

Interview with Dani Kome.

Kome: “I am pleased to be a player for CD Tenerife and I hope once more to be an important part of the team." The player predicts "a complicated year with lots of work
His was the goal against Girona which  finally meant the CD Tenerife was going up to the first division. He was an important player in the season 08/09 and he told the staff at the CDT website that he hopes this is the moment to recover his skills. Dani Kome prepares for his third season in Santa Cruz with "maximum hope" These are his impressions in the last few days before pre-season starts.:

How are your holidays?
“I am having a great time, I have managed to spend time with my family. Really it has been a wonderful moment. I have tried to forget what happened at the end of last season so I will come back to the team with more energy.”

What is your opinion of the way your national team played in the World Cup in South Africa?

“I have seen a lot of the games in the World Cup as I love football. It was a shame Cameroon was eliminated so early although it was something I suspected might happen. The run up to the games were not easy. You could see unfortunately that this was not going to be a great games for Cameroon”.

Now you have had time to think how do you see the coming season?
“It will be a complicated year. Generally it is reckoned that teams who go down have a good chance to go back up, but this must be proved with hard work. I think we have an important place in the second division and we will need to use it to prove we are one of the teams with the right to go back up to the first division."

Do you know the new CDT trainer, Gonzalo Arconada?
“No, I don't know him personally, although many have talked about how serious he is and how much he likes to work hard and that he wants to see others work well too. Certainly he seems a demanding trainer.”

Will we see the best version of Dani Kome?
“I am very excited. I hope for myself to recover the skills and standard I had in my first season with the club. I know that last season was not good, not nearly. I hope that once again I will be an important player for Tenerife."

Do you think the fans will again play an important part in the season?
“To the fans all I can say is please stay right here, with your team because it is something the players really appreciate. This season they will again show how important they are and we want to make them happy.”

Return of a CD Tenerife player

The first CD Tenerife signing for the season 10/11 is now on the Island. Antonio Hidalgo landed at Los Rodeos airport at mid day on Sunday on a plane form Barcelona. He was accompanied by his agent and the team sports director Santiago Llorente was at the airport to meet him.
Antonio Hidalgo, who player last season for Albacete Balompié, will be taking his medical checks in the Clínica Parque on Monday and will be presented in the press room at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López in the next few days.

Antonio Hidalgo Morilla was born in Granollers and grew up training for FC Barcelona. This offensive midfielder who is now 31 years old passed many of his years as a professional footballer here on the island.

In the summer of 2000 after long conversations the present sports director, Santiago Llorente, managed to convince Barcelona that the player should come on loan. He was very sucessful here and at the end of the 00/01 season the team ascended to the first division.

Antonio debuted in the first and second division with CD Tenerife. He played more than 100 games for the club last time around and was also captain. In the last of his 5 seasons with the club he started to score more goals (5 goals). After his contract ended he went to play for Malaga in the first division. He playerd there for 3 years scoring 28 goals in league games. Finishing his final year there with a new ascension to the first division

In the season 08/09 he took part in another ascension to the first division, in this case with Real Zaragoza, although he oly played the first half of the season. In the sesond half he played for Osasuna on loan, and they too went up to the Liga BBVA. After he had finished his contract with Zaragoza, Hidalgo acepted a contract with Albacete Balompié. Here the midfielder was decisive in their salvation in the 9/10 season scoring nine goals most of which were decisive. Including three in the last two games in the league against Girona & Cartagena. Inspite of the teams desire to renew Hidalgo had decided the time had come for a change.

Many teams had approached him to come a play for them but after he knew that CD Tenerife was interested in him that was that. The player was in the Montilivi stadium on the 13th of June 2009 for the game against Girona and saw the team who made his career return to the first division. Now he is back with " maximium faith" and with more experience to play for the club where he played most of the profesional games in his career. With 300 league games and 45 goals a player who wants to help CD Tenerife will be sure to be greeat.
Welcome back.
